WELCOME THE PRESENT MOMENT- EVERY SINGLE INSTANT!

=============================

BLOG 332–Are You a Traveler?
I’ve been a traveler for most of my life. Starting right after I finished high school, I got out to see the world. In 1978, my friend John Fox and I were performing together, doing shows in Balboa Park, San Diego. He did juggling and mime, while I did unicycling and juggling. We had a fabulous time.

The park was not enough for us; we wanted to get out there and learn about performing. I knew some of the best jugglers in the world performed in Europe. So, that was our goal: to go from circus to circus, show to show, and see all the jugglers.
In the background, there is the wonderful Baboa Park.

I started writing to jugglers (physically, this was way before the internet.) I was able to reach quite a few, and they looked forward to seeing us.

We first visited Karl-Heinz Zeithen in Berlin. He collects all juggling memorabilia and knows all the tours of the best jugglers over there. We had purchased Eurail passes so we could ride trains for free all over Europe for a month — and off we went!

We went by train all over Europe from circus to circus and theater to theater, seeing all the great jugglers. What an excellent education this was. We each learned a great deal that can be applied to our juggling, performing, and personal lives.

There have been at least 45 instances in which I drove my car or van, round-trip, from one side of the US to the other. I often attended International Juggling Association conventions, held all over the US, and performed juggling. I love being on the road.

After my accident, I could no longer juggle as I used to, but I knew juggling on the inside and out. I developed a workshop to help jugglers improve. I have worked with beginners to the most advanced jugglers. All around the world, I have received excellent comments on my work with jugglers.

All across the US, going to Europe three times, going to Japan three times, to five workshops in Australia, and five in New Zealand. Seems that I have worked with jugglers everywhere. I love it myself, I cannot juggle as I did, but I can help others to advance. Perhaps you have a skill or expertise that you can set up to work with people around the world?

Since I’ve traveled extensively, juggling is an appropriate topic to write about. Additionally, many of you are new friends, and I wanted to share my background with you so you can learn more about me. I haven’t been to China, Russia, or Africa, so perhaps I can set up workshops and visit those countries.

If you take frequent trips across the country or around the world, you are a traveler. Take a plane to Mexico, and all the other passengers are travelers, just like you. Some people travel frequently, for work or pleasure, and are considered travelers.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the definitions are; Traveller (or traveler) “A person who is travelling, or who often travels.”Tourist: “A person who travels for pleasure.” A tourist is a person who travels for pleasure or leisure.

The experienced traveler walks the walk. They take the time to really immerse themselves in a new culture, so that it almost feels familiar. At some point, they’ve picked up a few handy phrases, witnessed a local custom or two, and have enjoyed more than one tiny local spot that’s often overlooked in travel guides.

A traveler is a person who makes a journey or travels frequently. Many air travellers suffer puffy ankles and feet during long flights. Synonyms: voyager, tourist, passenger, journeyer–More Synonyms of traveller.

A traveller is someone who often travels, while a tourist travels for pleasure and/or sightseeing with a guide. Travellers will research and study their destinations before leaving. They focus on the culture of the country they are visiting and connect with locals to gain a deeper understanding of it.

Some of the better-known areas of work that Gypsies and Travellers are involved in include seasonal agricultural work, motor trading, and tree-felling. Some are employed as academics, teachers, and public servants, thereby contributing to the local economy.

For budget-friendly travel, prioritize affordable destinations and accommodations, utilize public transportation, and be flexible with your travel dates. Consider traveling during the off-season and taking advantage of free activities.

Affordable Destinations:

The USA:
This may be your home, a great place to start your travels.

Southeast Asia:
Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos offer excellent value for your money with low costs for food, accommodation, and transportation.

South America:
Colombia, Argentina, and Bolivia are known for their affordability and diverse landscapes and cultures.

Eastern Europe:
Countries like Bulgaria, Romania, and Georgia offer a taste of Europe at a fraction of the cost.

Mexico:
An excellent option for budget travelers, particularly for those in the US, with cheap flights and a wide range of affordable accommodations, according to Policybazaar.

PLACES TO STAY >>
Hostels, a bed to sleep, that’s all you need. Great for meeting other travelers and enjoying a low-cost stay, according to Camp Leaders. I’ve stayed at hostels all over the US, many places in Europe, in Japan, in Australia and in New Zealand.

Vacation rentals:
Websites like Airbnb can offer more affordable options than hotels, especially when traveling with a group. Consider staying outside of city centers.

Look for accommodations near public transportation hubs for a more budget-friendly option.

3. TRANSPORTATION >>
Public transportation: Utilize buses, trains, and subways to save on transportation costs.

Consider slower modes of travel: Trains and buses can be significantly cheaper than flying, especially for longer distances.

Travel during off-peak times: Flights and accommodations are generally cheaper during the off-season.

4. FOOD AND ACTIVITIES:

Eat like a local: Explore local markets and street food for affordable and authentic meals, says Quora users. Take advantage of free activities: Many cities offer free walking tours, museums, parks, and other attractions.

Pack light: Avoid baggage fees by packing only essentials.
Be Flexible.
Be open to new experiences.
Consider destinations you might not have initially thought of, according to Indie Traveller.
Embrace spontaneity.
Don’t be afraid to change your plans on the fly and explore new opportunities as they arise.
Travel with a friend or group.
Splitting costs for accommodation and transportation can make a big difference, notes a Reddit thread.
My tips are from many trips to the notoriously pricy Nordic countries.
Avoid travel between late May and early September, as well as during holidays.
Sign up for fare sale emails from every airline you would consider flying on.
Book flights mid-week, not on weekends.
My tips from many trips to the notorious Nordic countries can be a bit pricy.
Avoid travel between 12:00 and 2:00. You will still be able to get anywhere pretty quickly and can save quite a bit.

Transit passes and museum/attraction passes are generally excellent deals. The Luxembourg pass covers nearly all museums and public transportation in the country. A three-day pass was only 28 Euros last time I looked.

Look for free days at individual museums and city-wide (e.g., Brussels used to offer free museum admission on the first Wednesday afternoon of each month; I’m not sure if this is still the case). Some museums are always free. Find a “free walking tour” where you tip at the end. I give $10-$20 depending on the length and size of the group, and I always feel like I got a bargain.

Food is the easiest way to save or splurge. I eat a big breakfast at the hotel, and can usually go until 1:30 or 2 until I need something else. Generally, I only eat lunch or dinner and just a snack for the other meal. I always stop by a grocery store on my first day to pick up some essentials, such as bread, cheese, and other necessities, to keep in my room. I’m not a foodie, so I’m not missing out on anything. I do budget for a nicer meal every few days.

NOW GET OUT THERE AND SEE THE WORLD!

ALL YOU HAVE IS NOW!
MAKE THINGS FANTASTIC!

WORDS TO INSPIRE YOU!
Inspirational quotesand sayings have a unique ability to change the way we feel about life and can change our thoughts. They are attractive, challenging, and essential on our path to joy and happiness, as well as finding ways to inspire ourselves and others.

READ
Reading through the quotes below about life can do the trick if you’re looking for a pick-me-up or a healthy dose of motivation. Whether centered around positive affirmations, self-care, or success, life quotes can be powerful inspirational tools.

THE BURST!
Inspirational quotes and ideas provide a quick and timely burst of wisdom to help us regain our focus, offering the inspiration needed for the day or occasion. I hope the words below bring a smile to your face and drive you to make this day and every day a fantastic event.

BE POSITIVE!
Just as positive words can make someone smile, and a well-timed, amusing quote can make someone laugh, your thoughts react to real life. Have this control! You have complete control over only one thing in the universe—YOUR THINKING!—and that’s where motivational quotes come in!

“YOU”
Your quality of thinking and how you think and feel about yourself, including your beliefs and expectations about what is possible, determine everything in your life. Use quotes to move ahead in your life.

SELF-TALK IS SO ESSENTIAL—THINK RIGHT!
To stay motivated, use each day as an opportunity to improve and move closer to your goals. It might sound like a lot of work, and it’s next to impossible with your busy schedule. But you can do it! Motivational words, yes, are just words. But they are positive words; they will keep you on track.

QUOTES
Motivational quotes impact our brain, behavior, and lives because they make us feel like we are in control of our success and have a sense of self-efficacy. Quotes make us believe that we have the confidence to complete a task successfully, which is different from having the motivation to succeed.

QUOTES WILL BENEFIT YOU!
Positive and inspiring quotes can be like sunshine on a cloudy day. They inject optimism into our thoughts, brighten our mood, and help us focus on the good in life. They remind us that even in the face of adversity, we can see the silver lining and embrace a positive attitude.

PEARLS OF WISDOM
In a world filled with challenges and indecisiveness, the power of inspirational quotes cannot be exaggerated. These pearls of wisdom uniquely uplift our spirits, can spark positive change, and fuel our motivation when we need it most.

WORDS WILL CHANGE YOU!
The correct motivational quote can change you and things, helping you ditch the excuses, escape your comfort zone, and take action. Read these words with an open mind and learn to improve your life.

THESE QUOTES
When you read these quotes, you’ll also realize that many other people worldwide are experiencing these feelings. These feelings make you think you’re the only person who could feel this bad. But you’re not. Many other people also feel bad. This is the irony of it. You don’t want other people to feel crappy, but it does make you feel better or at least comforted to know that other people feel just as bad as you.

READ CAREFULLY
These quotes can be used when you wake up or prepare for work.
You can write your favorite quotes somewhere where you can see them as soon as you wake up.
These quotes are motivating, inspiring, and encouraging.
They will help you see your potential, stay motivated, and see the beauty in every morning.
Use them to your advantage!

MY DAILY JOTTINGS >>
Each week goes by so quickly.
It seems that time is passing more quickly.
You must live joyfully, daily, for each day!

Do you know what you did last Monday?
Do you remember what you ate for dinner last Thursday?
Keep track of your doings for a few weeks; you will see your time differently.
Remember, the quality of your life depends on what you do each day, in every moment.

7/4–There was a massive fireworks show right out my window, lasting about 30 minutes. It was one of the better displays I’ve seen, but overall, fireworks bore me. They are all about the same. I recall a great one once, but I’ve forgotten where it was. That was enough for me.

7/5–Nothing new to write about today, sorry. As I wrote before, if you “make” things happen, as opposed to just living life day to day, you will have things to write about.

7/6--I worked on juggling 5 balls today. Before the accident, five balls were so easy for me, and all the tricks, too. I could barely get the balls out of my hands today. This is the first time I’ve tried juggling 5 balls since the accident. I know instinctively how to do it; why can’t I?

7/7–I try to be friendly with some of the brain injury people here, and I get no response. I said, “Good Morning”, as he was passing me, no response. He has extreme difficulties; I don’t think I could help in any way, although I want to.

I went out the front door and walked around for a bit. I am not stuck here; I have to ask and explore more.

7/8–Only one therapy session today on memory. About ten people there, with helpful ideas. Being here with all the brain-injured reminded me of the patients in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.” Many people here use wheelchairs and/or have speech difficulties. I just don’t feel that I fit in here at all. As I’ve written before — what a strange life I lead.

Miles, who runs the place where I am currently residing, helped me get signed up for Aetna Medicare. I noticed many areas where I am not doing well, and I don’t like that.

There is a doctor here who works with current patients. I had made a list of things wrong wih me and he will start to help me to get better at each.

7/9–This morning, I put together a system to help patients here move ahead. I explained that it’s similar to the Boy Scout system, where you progress through a merit badge system. I explained that the main way I made a good recovery was by challenging myself.

Jonny, who works for NeuroRestorative, drove me to Costco to pick up some items. When we got back, I taught him to juggle, and he learned quickly. I was pretty impressed.

7/10–I just sent these out today about the place where I am living >>
Thanks for your words, Greg. And thank you for putting me at Neuro Restorative. Things are working out well here. I just made a batch of my fresh salsa, and they will be having a party tomorrow (a salsa party, that is). The salsa turned out as good as usual. I’m sure you saw >>
https://sites.google.com/site/summerssalsa/

This is a very clean, newer building. I like it. However, it’s like being in jail here. And you know, I spent a month in jail on a false charge, so I understand what it’s like. I’ve been out a few times, including to Walmart once and Costco once. If you need to go somewhere, they furnish a van and a driver for you (I wonder if they would do that if I want to visit San Diego?)

Three meals a day are nice, too. At first, the meals were not very good, but they are improving. I purchased some edible items at Costco to keep me going. I have my own rather large three-room apartment. This has a large front room and kitchen. The bathroom is spacious. The bedroom is also quite substantial and comfortable. So, overall, very cozy.

I am going to check with them to see if there is a bicycle I can use to ride in the area. I need to start working out and losing some weight; biking will help me achieve this goal. And, there are some woods across the field out front, I will have to do some hiking, too. I will check in as they want me to do, I hope it works out for me.

In therapy with some of the other people, it seems I am more advanced than they are. Many of them are in wheelchairs, and they also have other health issues. I am trying to help and inspire as I go. I’ve included Miles in this email, as he is running this place. I’ve been trying to help him too, with direct emails offering suggestions for changes to improve the place.

7/11–Awoke at 1:30 am and woke up for the day at 6:23 am.

I was right; it’s like being in jail. I went to the front door and across the street (not much traffic at all.) I was working on my three-club juggling, and it wasn’t going well. Then, three people came out to tell me I could not be outside. One of whom was Myles Mireles, the director of this place.

You have to remember that I have been independent for most of my life, so this was a challenge. Travelling all around the world and being independent is hard for me.

However, I do see how they can’t just let the people here wander the area; some are already lost. I will follow their wishes.

MAKE THIS DAY GREAT FOR YOU!
THEN, KEEP DOING NEW (DAILY) FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!

THE GARDEN THIS WEEK
I keep this section on gardening.
I do like the skill and hope you do, too.

Winter is here now.
But there are still things you can grow.
And remember about indoor gardening.

A self-supporting life can be a better life.
A garden would be a part of that life.
You must look into it!

Because I am back on the road.
There will be no more words about the garden.
I do hope Beth keeps it up.
We did a lot of work establishing our vegetable garden.

START YOUR GARDEN TODAY!
IT MAY BE NECESSARY FOR YOUR LIFE!

******************
ALL OUR LIVES, WE MUST CHALLENGE OURSELVES!
YOUR CHALLENGE FOR THE WEEK >>
Figure out some places you can go to explore and see what is there.
Wilderness areas are better.
Now find a place you can explore for a weekend.
