OPENING WORDS

You might be wondering about the place I am currently living.
Please, contact me, for I am lonely.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) remains a significant cause of death and permanent disability worldwide, especially in children and young adults (I was only 23). A total of 1.5 million people experience brain trauma each year in the United States, with an annual economic cost exceeding

Often called a head injury, it is a brain injury I experienced.
A head injury could be as minor as a pimple or a bad haircut.

THIS IS LOOKING OUT MY BEDROOM WINDOW

NeuroRestorative has two floors of people, like me, who have been through a brain injury. Of course, we are all different, as you are different from others. Brain injury can include trouble with speech, thinking ability, and walking (many use walkers to get around). Some here have a person with them all day and night to help. In a way, I feel fortunate to come out as good as I did.

But living here can be very limiting. At one point, I walked across the road in front to juggle on the grass. Right away, they came to me and told me I could not leave the building unless I was given a pass and accompanied by someone.

I didn’t know enough about this place until I settled in; this place can be very limiting. As you know, I had to spend a month in jail on a false charge. Where I am now seems increasingly like jail all the time.
These are closets in my bedroom.

I don’t know how Jasmine and April even found this place.

When I was at Walmart, I bought a knife to use in the kitchen. Later, when Myles was in my room with someone else, they found my knife and took it away. Any mail or packages that come for me are thoroughly looked through. In a way, it’s kind of scary to live here.

If I need to go to Costco or Walmart, I have to have someone drive me there, and they stay with me in the store. I can see how this is necessary for many people here, but each individual should have a certain level of independence that can be achieved. I’ve lost my freedom! Throughout my life, I have been free to do as I please, so this is all new to me.

At Walmart, I bought a knife to use in the kitchen. A knife is very safe with me and necessary for cutting up some of the things I cook. The knife was taken from me. I was told that, if I need to use the knife, it will be in their kitchen and I can ask for it. They need to treat each person on their own level, based on their individual capabilities and needs.

As you may know, in 2012, I was put in jail for a month on a false charge. In many ways, being at NeuroRestorative is worse than when I had to spend time in the slammer. The limitations imposed sometimes seem to be more severe.

I’m not even sure how I can eventually get out of here.
Some of the people here have stayed for years, I think.
And, what would I do if I did get out?
Where would I go?
Who could I connect with?
Yes, it’s a nice place, but what if I want to return to Key West?

WELCOME THE PRESENT MOMENT- EVERY SINGLE INSTANT!

BLOG 334–WHAT DOES YOUR MIND DWELL ON?

What you think about is often what you become, so be careful what you believe and expect.

When you dwell on something, you continually think about it. The thoughts dominate you, whether it’s a significant event or an everyday worry, or even juggling. Your dwelling often becomes a passion.  Many of us, most of the time, live by what is most on our minds! It must become your passion! I achieved this with my juggling, recovery, writing, salsa, and my drive.

When a person says their mind “dwells” on something, it generally means they are thinking about it deeply, patiently, and repeatedly. It’s about what is important to you. Most of the time, this is done in a way that occupies a significant amount of their mental space. You can go either way — positive or negative thoughts — these can range from simply pondering a topic to obsessing over it.

Often, this self-talk is negative.
Yet, continually focusing on the negative becomes a hindrance to your mind.
As we talk to ourselves, most of the time we mean,
“I’m thinking about it . . .”
“I’m daydreaming about. . . ”
“I’m obsessing about something. . .”
You choose.

However you’ve used them, to most of us, it means we’re spending a lot of time thinking about a topic, running it through our minds, and in many cases. Stay away from negative thoughts; they can destroy you! It is where you take your mind. This is something you have full control of. So, be cautious about what you think.

ALL YOU HAVE IS NOW!
MAKE THINGS FANTASTIC!

WORDS TO INSPIRE YOU!
Inspirational quotes and sayings have a unique ability to change the way we feel about life and can change our thoughts. They are attractive, challenging, and essential on our path to joy and happiness, as well as finding ways to inspire ourselves and others.

READ
Reading through the quotes below about life can do the trick if you’re looking for a pick-me-up or a healthy dose of motivation. Whether centered around positive affirmations, self-care, or success, life quotes can be powerful inspirational tools.

THE BURST!
Inspirational quotes and ideas provide a quick and timely burst of wisdom to help us regain our focus, offering the inspiration needed for the day or occasion. I hope the words below bring a smile to your face and drive you to make this day and every day a fantastic event.

BE POSITIVE!
Just as positive words can make someone smile, and a well-timed, amusing quote can make someone laugh, your thoughts react to real life. Have this control! You have complete control over only one thing in the universe—YOUR THINKING!—and that’s where motivational quotes come in!

“YOU”
Your quality of thinking and how you think and feel about yourself, including your beliefs and expectations about what is possible, determine everything in your life. Use quotes to move ahead in your life.

SELF-TALK IS SO ESSENTIAL—THINK RIGHT!
To stay motivated, use each day as an opportunity to improve and move closer to your goals. It might sound like a lot of work, and it’s next to impossible with your busy schedule. But you can do it! Motivational words, yes, are just words. But they are positive words; they will keep you on track.

QUOTES
Motivational quotes impact our brain, behavior, and lives because they make us feel like we are in control of our success and have a sense of self-efficacy. Quotes make us believe that we have the confidence to complete a task successfully, which is different from having the motivation to succeed.

QUOTES WILL BENEFIT YOU!
Positive and inspiring quotes can be like sunshine on a cloudy day. They inject optimism into our thoughts, brighten our mood, and help us focus on the good in life. They remind us that even in the face of adversity, we can see the silver lining and embrace a positive attitude.

PEARLS OF WISDOM
In a world filled with challenges and indecisiveness, the power of inspirational quotes cannot be exaggerated. These pearls of wisdom uniquely uplift our spirits, can spark positive change, and fuel our motivation when we need it most.

WORDS WILL CHANGE YOU!
The correct motivational quote can transform you and your perspective, helping you overcome excuses, step out of your comfort zone, and take action. Read these words with an open mind and learn to improve your life.

THESE QUOTES
When you read these quotes, you’ll also realize that many other people worldwide are experiencing these feelings. These feelings make you think you’re the only person who could feel this bad. But you’re not. Many other people also feel bad. This is the irony of it. You don’t want other people to feel crappy, but it does make you feel better, or at least comforted to know that other people feel just as bad as you.

READ CAREFULLY
These quotes can be used when you wake up or prepare for work.
You can write your favorite quotes somewhere where you can see them as soon as you wake up.
These quotes are motivating, inspiring, and encouraging.
They will help you see your potential, stay motivated, and see the beauty in every morning.
Use them to your advantage!

I HOPE THE FOLLOWING WORDS
INSPIRE YOU AND ADD TO YOUR LIFE >>

“Don’t dwell on what went wrong.
Instead, focus on what to do next.
Spend your energies on moving forward toward finding the answer.”
Denis Waitley

“Happiness resides not in possessions,
and not in gold; happiness dwells in the soul.”
Democritus

“You must not under any pretense allow your mind to dwell on any thought that is not positive, constructive, optimistic, or kind.”
Emmet Fox

“In baseball, my approach is to strive for consistency rather than worrying about the numbers. If you dwell on statistics, you get shortsighted; if you aim for consistency, the numbers will be there at the end.”
Tom Seaver

“You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don’t try to forget the mistakes, but you don’t dwell on them. You don’t let it take any of your energy, time, or space.”
Johnny Cash

“I dwell in possibility.”
Emily Dickinson

“Life is thickly sown with thorns, and I know no other remedy than to pass quickly through them. The longer we dwell on our misfortunes, the greater is their power to harm us.”
Voltaire

“A great city, whose image dwells in the memory of man, is the type of some great idea. Rome represents conquest; faith hovers over the towers of Jerusalem; and Athens embodies the preeminent quality of the ancient world, Art.”
Benjamin Disraeli

“Every year of my life, I grow more convinced that it is wisest and best to fix our attention on the beautiful and the good, and dwell as little as possible on the evil and the false.”
Richard Cecil

“Mysterious love, uncertain treasure, hast thou more of pain or pleasure! Endless torments dwell about thee: Yet who would live, and live without thee!”
Joseph Addison

“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”
J. K. Rowling

“Pure love and suspicion cannot dwell together: at the door where the latter enters, the former makes its exit.”
Alexandre Dumas

“I don’t dwell, I’m not a dweller. I just like to keep moving forward, because life is short.”
Shirley Ballas

“Man can climb to the highest summits, but he cannot dwell there long. George Bernard Shaw: To dwell is to garden.”
Martin Heidegger

“What you put in, you usually get out. If you are not good enough on the day, it’s acceptable, but if you put in everything you have, you typically get a decent result. When you lose, it motivates you to try again, rather than dwelling on the past.”
Alun Wyn Jones

“Courage is poorly housed that dwells in numbers; the lion never counts the herd that are about him, nor weighs how many flocks he has to scatter.”
Aaron Hill

“A mistress should be like a little country retreat near the town, not to dwell in constantly, but only for a night and away.”
William Wycherley

“Thinking of possibilities is like driving a car on a freeway. You have an open road that stretches endlessly before you, where your thoughts are not shackled. But when we say ‘impossible,’ we have already reached a dead-end in our minds. So dwell on possibilities to open up your horizon.”
Pankaj Patel

MY DAILY JOTTINGS >>
Each week goes by so quickly.
It seems that time is passing more quickly.
You must live joyfully, daily, for each day!

Do you know what you did last Monday?
Do you remember what you ate for dinner last Thursday?
Keep track of your doings for a few weeks; you will see your time differently.
Remember, the quality of your life depends on what you do each day, in every moment.

7/19–I started today; nothing but green tea will go down my throat for a few days. I’m not sure how long I’ll keep it up. Yes, fasting for Kit, and I will do it slowly (fast/slow?) Now it’s 9 am, and I’m not hungry. Did you know that food consumption accounts for a significant portion of human life?

Sorry to say, I couldn’t keep it up. In the past, I have never gone without food for a few weeks; this time, I couldn’t. I have some food in the fridge that I need to eat, so I’ve decided to control my eating habits for the future.

I just ask myself out loud — “WHAT AM I DOING HERE?”
Right now, I want to go outside and take a walk, but that’s not allowed.
I don’t think I am benefiting enough to stay here.
I am angry — not allowed to drive — that must change.

I read this once, and it should apply to everyone >>
“You should not be able to die until you have done to advance humans.”
My books and workshops have advanced many.

I’m pretty lonely today.
Will I ever be with the right woman for me?
Seems that I died on April 3, 1982.
Not much left of me.

Living in a brain injury hospital, and my injury was 43 years ago.
No wonder I don’t feel like I fit in here.

7/20–Awoke at about 1 am, up for the day, I am. I continued to watch Hang ‘em High, Clint Eastwood. I like Clint Eastwood movies. I cut my hair this morning. My goal is to keep my hair short. I use a hair clipper to get all the hair and beard to the same length.

To protect my clubs while juggling, I purchased a 4′ x 6′ carpet from Amazon. Yes, at times I do drop them, I have to admit it. However, the juggling is progressing well.

Today I finished watching Clint Eastwood in “A Fist Full of Dollars”, a good flick.
7/21, 22–Nothing of note happened on these two days.
Or, I didn’t make anything happen.
As I wrote before, it is up to each of us to fill our days.

7/23–Today, a group of us returned to The Wash Foundation to volunteer to sort soap.
Essentially, we sorted used soap from motels, which will be repacked later.
Here they are >>
https://thewashfoundation.org/
They need donations to keep going. If you can help, go here >>
https://give.thewashfoundation.org/give/479807/#!/donation/checkout

This is from their website >>
Today, more than 844 million people lack access to basic drinking water. More than 2.3 billion people lack access to basic sanitation. The leading cause of death for children under age five is hygiene-related illnesses like diarrhea and pneumonia. More children die from water and sanitation-related causes than from malaria, AIDS, and tuberculosis combined.

The WASH Foundation is taking an active role in improving health and transforming the lives of vulnerable populations worldwide by providing access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene to women, children, and families who need our help now, more than ever. You can make a difference today.

7/24–This morning, as they do every day, my blood pressure was taken.
It was at 167/65, which was a high reading.
She checked the other arm, 167/108.
Perhaps I will die soon, and all this will be over.
Will you miss me?

I heard from another who wants to produce a movie about my story. This would be great if it were to happen. A few in the past have brought up the idea, but it went nowhere.

My speech therapist didn’t know how to judge! A willing student, she was quick to learn. I feel bad; part of speech therapy involves memory, and I’ve forgotten her name.

7/25–For most of my life, I have been with a partner. So, strange now to be alone. Often, I wake and feel for a person next to me, but she is not there, of course. Are you out there?

MAKE THIS DAY GREAT FOR YOU!
THEN, KEEP
DOING NEW (DAILY) FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!

THE GARDEN THIS WEEK
I keep this section on gardening.
I do like the skill and hope you do, too.

Winter is here now.
But there are still things you can grow.
And remember about indoor gardening.

A self-supporting life can be a better life.
A garden would be a part of that life.
You must look into it!

Because I am back on the road.
There will be no more words about the garden.
I do hope Beth keeps it up.
We did a lot of work establishing our vegetable garden.

START YOUR GARDEN TODAY!
IT MAY BE NECESSARY FOR YOUR LIFE!

******************
ALL OUR LIVES, WE MUST CHALLENGE OURSELVES!
YOUR CHALLENGE FOR THE WEEK >>
Search your mind for what you continually dwell on.
If it’s negative, change your thoughts.
You have that control.
