TOPIC FOR THIS WEEK — Reach for Excellence!

In my life, I have aimed for excellence from a young age. By “excellence,” I mean doing whatever you do to the best of your ability. Starting in junior high school and riding my unicycle, I tried every trick I could and advanced quickly.

This led me to juggling, where I always tried to be the best I could.
On to juggling 7 clubs, a world record at the time.
In high school, pole-vaulting: I flew over the bar at 18’6”, a record.
Then, of course, there was my accident and the 37-day coma I had to come back from.
Writing my book, Juggling with Finesse”, was a significant aim toward excellence in my life.
Starting small, like brushing my teeth myself, I had to perfect every detail of the task.

Pursuing excellence is essential if we live life to the fullest and make maximum impact on those around us. This requires hard work and dedication. It’s about consistently doing your best and challenging yourself to exceed the standard.

This process can be rewarding and challenging, and the accomplishment at the end of each day is a powerful motivator to keep you going.

Remember that excellence isn’t a fixed point to reach and forget about; it’s a continuous journey. It’s about setting realistic goals that align with your larger life aspirations. Every day, every effort you make toward those objectives is a triumph. Acknowledge your strengths, and be compassionate about the areas where you need to improve.

No matter your problem, if you break things down and do your darndest, you will aim for the excellence you seek. Once you start toward the habit of excellence, you can strive for excellence in all you do. Do the work; make this a pattern in your life.

In our quest for excellence, it’s vital to understand that this pursuit is not about chasing an elusive state of perfection. Instead, it’s about striving to be a better version of ourselves each day. The journey toward excellence is marked by hard work, a sense of accomplishment, and a commitment to constant learning.

Understanding is your crucial partner to excellence for yourself and others. It’s essential to approach your journey with kindness and self-forgiveness. Welcome your imperfections, for they are a part of what makes you uniquely human.

As we navigate the complexities of life and “juggle” various responsibilities, let us remind ourselves that excellence isn’t about being the best in all fields–instead–it is excelling in the areas that truly matter to us. It’s about recognizing our strengths, handling our weaknesses, and embracing the journey of self-improvement with enthusiasm.

As you reflect on your improvements at the end of each day, remember that pursuing excellence isn’t about reaching perfection; it’s about improving yourself daily. You may have gone through a brain injury and are still in a wheelchair, having trouble speaking. You can still aim for and find the excellence that you can!

The mindset of excellence is a commitment to personal growth as you help others to reach their goals. Aiming for excellence is more than a unique experience; it is a belief in your abilitybto improve and a dedication to the journey, no matter how challenging.

Pursuing excellence means living life to the fullest, significantly impacting us and those around us, thus evolving into the best version of ourselves, one day at a time. So, let’s continue this journey, taking each step with determination, compassion, and a commitment to becoming a better version of ourselves with every passing day.

Now, let’s look at the ways you can reach excellence and prevent lapse >>

1. Know your desires, your strengths, and your weaknesses.
Sometimes, just writing down a list of your strengths and weaknesses can provide a clear perspective. Please note the areas you need to work on and pat yourself on the back for those strengths.

2. Set realistic goals to aim for.
Work hard, work bright and with intelligence, and do it consistently. Superiority will require you to stretch your boundaries, push your limits, and live to your highest potential. If you feel you are losing your motivation, make yourself accountable to another person. Surround yourself with positive, supportive people who will encourage and help keep you motivated.

3. Focus–Focus–Focus.
Procrastination is your enemy, but so is distraction. Do you make poor determinations? Decisions that distract you from your goals and your ability to seek the excellence you want? Be aware of the patterns, then take a few minutes to prioritize and reduce your list to just one week at a time, realizing that mistakes and defects are a natural part of the process.

4. Take care of your health–both mental and physical.
Do you have pride in yourself and your work? Are you frustrated because your goal isn’t turning out as you first imagined? Learn to change with the changes. Take time to refresh, rest, and take a break when you need. Don’t let yourself fall into the trap of being a victim. Remember, it’s okay if you make mistakes; learn from them and use them as opportunities for growth and improvement.

5. Become a sponge for wisdom.
Continuous learning widens your horizons. Stay humble and draw from others who have gone before you; learn from the best. Look for computer sites to help you strive for the excellence that you seek.

6. Be aware of the company you keep.
Surrounding yourself with excellence is a great motivator.
Others are looking for you, too. Find others and join them toward their excellence.
Stay away from negative people.

7. Always stay on top of things.
Integrity is the value that should be at the top of your list. Others will notice when you follow through on what you set before you. Even more beneficial is that you can look back and see how far you have come–you will inspire others and yourself!

8. Choosing to excel despite the level of hardship.
If excellence were accessible, no one would choose mediocracy. Keep going. Keep moving. Remind yourself of the why. Write things down and stick it to your mirror if you have to. But choose to do the hard stuff.

9. Be open to change because changes will come.
If you resist change and choose to stick to your old ways, you stand to lose out on the continued opportunities and possibilities to grow and better your life. Don’t strive for perfection in what you do. Strive for excellence. Learn to change with the changes along the way.

10. Maintain an upbeat attitude about what you do, yourself, and your goal.
Excellence is not the eventual goal; it’s a mindset and a way of life. Believe in your ability to improve, and you’ll see yourself always at the top.
