TOPIC FOR THIS WEEK—What will you leave behind you?

YOUR CHOICE–WHAT DO YOU WANT YOUR LEGACY TO BE?

Even if you have gone through a significant life change, such as my accident and 37-day coma, or have little money or success in life, you can still add to the world and make things better for society. That should be your primary aim–you can not die until you have done something to help the world.

And, if you are successful and filthy rich, you, of course, need to add to future human lives in some way. This needs to be the main objective of how people live their lives. You are not here for just you; you need to do whatever you can to make life better for others–now and in the future.

IN THIS WORLD, IF EVERYONE TRIES TO MAKE A BETTER LIFE FOR ALL OF US,
THIS WILL BE A BETTER WORLD FOR EVERYONE!

For myself, all my life, I have driven myself to go for more, not necessarily working on my legacy, just always aiming toward the excellence I could find for myself and others. But, I am still determining what I will be most remembered for. It may be sticking to writing this blog and trying to make your life better.

Your legacy does not have to be a huge thing. Simply helping someone else could be your legacy. It is a matter of supporting and improving the world somehow.

Sad news this week: Matthew Perry died. He established his legacy and brought smiles to billions of faces by performing on Friends. Once again, this shows us that we have a limited time while alive. I urge you to make the most of the time you have left.

The too-soon passing of Matthew Perry seriously saddens everyone. He brought so much joy to hundreds of millions of people worldwide with his pitch-perfect comedic timing and wit. His legacy will live on through countless generations.

THE DEFINITION OF “LEGACE” IS SOMETHING THAT IS PASSED DOWN.

But Legacy can take many forms >>>
A Legacy may be of one’s ethics and/or core values.
A Legacy may be monetary or your assets, which are passed down.
A Legacy can simply be helping that old lady who is down the street.
A Legacy may come from one’s character, reputation, and the life you lead.

It can be setting an example for others and guiding their futures.

YOU MUST CONSTANTLY BE WORKING ON YOUR LEGACY.

A legacy grasps your life and the lessons learned along the way, or it honors things that were most important to you, such as a skill or cause or an interest. Having a lasting legacy means that you share these deeper meanings with friends, family, and posterity.

Everyone creates and retells their story — your life tale connects you to your community and distinguishes you from the lives of others. In other words, your legacy is what makes you unique. It is more than just giving you good family stories to tell.

A legacy captures your life and lessons learned along the way, or it honors things that were most important to you, such as a cause or an interest like helping others. Having a lasting legacy means that you share these deeper meanings with friends, family, and posterity.

As you develop your legacy, inventory everything in your life that makes it uniquely yours. Live a lifetime of remembrances and family accounts that reflect your accomplishments and motivations. These stories will, for others, continue to enjoy your unique qualities for many years.

What will you be known for when you leave this world? The most influential people, the ones who leave behind incredible legacies, will live on in the hearts of the people they touch. Physically, they will no longer be a part of society—but their principles, philosophies, and accomplishments will become immortal, spreading from generation to generation.

YOU CAN START MAKING YOUR MARK ON THE WORLD
TODAY BY PUSHING YOURSELF TO EXCELLENCE!

Legacy is about life and living.
It’s about learning from the past
    About living in the present.
    And building for the future.
    Making a great family.
    Writing a book.
    Planting a tree.
    Teaching a kid to juggle.

SUGGESTIONS–Just planting a tree. Where is it best to produce a young tree: a clearing in an old-growth forest or an open field? Naturalists tell us that a young tree grows better when planted in an area with older trees. The reason is that the roots of the young tree can follow the pathways created by former trees and implant themselves more deeply.

Over time, the origins of many trees may graft themselves to one another, creating an intricate, interdependent base hidden under the ground. In this way, more vigorous trees share resources with weaker ones so that the whole forest becomes healthier.

That’s legacy: an interconnection across time, with a need for those who have come before us and a responsibility to those who come after us. Legacy is essential to what it is to be human. Research shows that adults need a sense of work to create a gift to support meaning.

Exploring the idea of legacy offers a glimpse not only into human relationships and building strong communities but also into the human spirit. If we all aim for the future in this way, what a wonderful world we would have.

The idea of legacy may remind us of death, but it’s not about dying. Being reminded of death is a good thing because dying informs life. It gives you a perspective on what is essential. But legacy is really about life and living. It helps us decide the kind of life we want and the world we want to live in.

The giving and receiving of legacies can produce, all at once, an entire spectrum of basic human emotions–hope, longing, regret, jealousy, anxiety, fear, dread, bitterness, rage, a sense of failure, a feeling of accomplishment, pride, contentment, joy, gratitude, humility, love.

When you start thinking about legacies, no matter what your age or state of health, you take inventory of your possessions and also of your accomplishments and disappointments. You take stock of what you’ve learned because of what you have done in the past, what you’re doing now, and what you still hope to do.

With varying levels of awareness, people also inevitably reflect on the people–on work, ideas, commitments, and social institutions that have given their lives shape and meaning.

Most of us will not be Albert Einstein, with our accomplishments remembered forever in the history books. But that does not lessen our need to create some meaning in our lives, to have what we’ve done and thought live on after us, to be remembered in some way.

From a practical standpoint, if you don’t pass on your life experience by leaving a legacy, the wisdom you’ve gained through decades of complex learning will disappear as your physical body wears out. What a waste, I see in some people.

A legacy may take many forms – children, grandchildren, your business, an ideal, a book, a community, a home, or some of ourselves. Our legacy naturally intrigues us and others who witness it. Understandably, we want to know how the world will remember us after our death.

How many of us will be surprised?
How many of us live so that our legacy reflects us?
How many of us are living with integrity and courage?
If you haven’t yet, start developing your legacy now!

WHAT NEW STORIES ARE YOU READY TO WRITE?

    WORDS TO INSPIRE YOU! >>
Inspirational quotes and motivational sayings have a unique ability to change the way we feel about life and can change our thinking.

They are so interesting, challenging, and essential on our path to joy, happiness, and finding ways to inspire ourselves and others.

Inspirational quotes and ideas give us a quick and timely burst of wisdom to get our focus back, offering the inspiration needed for the day or occasion.

I hope to inspire you with my words.
    Words have power.

Are you accomplishing what you want before your eventual death?
At any age, you can (and should) make changes to make your life better.

How you think and feel about yourself, including your beliefs and expectations about what is possible, determines everything in your life, and it all derives from your quality of thinking.

WHEN YOU IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF YOUR THINKING,
YOU CHANGE THE QUALITY OF YOUR LIFE—SOMETIMES INSTANTLY!

Just as positive words can make someone smile, and a well-timed amusing quote can make someone laugh, your thoughts react to the world in real time. You have this control!

You have complete control over only one thing in the universe — Your Thinking —and that’s where motivational quotes come in!

To keep your motivation, you have to use each day as an opportunity to improve and get closer to your goals. It might sound like a lot of work—and with your busy schedule—next to impossible. But you can do it!

    Self-talk is so essential—THINK RIGHT!

Motivational words, yes, they are just words.
But they are positive words; they will keep you on track.

EVEN IF YOU START LATE, ARE UNCERTAIN,
    OR ARE DIFFERENT –
    YOU CAN STILL FIND SUCCESS!

Don’t forget that you are only as young as the last time you changed your mind!
Keep your thoughts and self-talk fun and productive, and always reach for more advancement.

REMEMBER, VERY LITTLE IS NEEDED TO MAKE A GREAT LIFE.

    READ OPTIMISTIC QUOTES

Positive and inspiring quotes are like beams of sunshine on a cloudy day. They inject optimism into our thoughts, brighten our mood,  and help us focus on the good in life. They remind us that even in the face of adversity, we can see the silver lining and embrace a positive attitude.

In a world filled with challenges and indecisiveness, the power of inspirational quotes cannot be exaggerated. These pearls of wisdom uniquely uplift our spirits, can spark positive change, and fuel our motivation often when we need it most.

I hope the following words help >>

“Everyone must leave something behind when he dies, my grandfather said. A child or a book or a painting or a house or a wall built or a pair of shoes made…It doesn’t matter what you do, he said, so long as you change something from the way it was before you touched it into something that’s like you after you take your hands away.” – Ray Bradbury, author

“The planting of a tree, especially one of the long-living hardwood trees, is a gift which you can make to posterity at almost no cost and with almost no trouble, and if the tree takes root, it will far outlive the visible effect of any of your other actions, good or evil.” – George Orwell, author

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson.

“In a gentle way, you can shake the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi

“I don’t want to end up simply having visited this world.” – Mary Oliver

“Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” – Warren Buffett

“If you’re going to live, leave a legacy.
Make a mark on the world that can’t be erased.” – Maya Angelou

“The things you do for yourself are gone when you are gone, but those you do for others remain your legacy.” – N. D. Kalu

“If your actions create a legacy that inspires others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, then you are an excellent leader.” – Dolly Parton

“Our most important legacy will be the contributions we make to the lives of other human beings.” – Thomas Kinkade

“The greatest legacy one can pass on to one’s children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one’s life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.” – Billy Graham

“We do make a difference – one way or the other. We are responsible for the impact of our lives. Whatever we do with whatever we have, we leave behind us a legacy for those who follow.” – Stephen Covey

“It’s about the journey–mine and yours–and the lives we can touch, the legacy we can leave, and the world we can change for the better.” – Tony Dungy

“When you make loving others the story of your life, there’s never a final chapter because the legacy continues. You lend your light to one person, and he or she shines it on another and another and another.” – Oprah Winfrey

    MY DAILY JOTTINGS >>
Each week goes by so quickly, don’t you think?
Time is going faster all the time, it seems.
Do you keep track of what you do each day?
Do this for a few weeks, and you will see your time differently.

10/28–Beth and I visited a local annual flea market in Plum Branch. Advertising was minimal; very few people showed up. Beth had put together some items to sell, and I brought nine of the coffee tables I built. There was interest, but none of the coffee tables sold.

10/29–Hmm, on this Sunday, we only did a little. Yet, life is how we make it, and I could have made something happen, did you?

One thing: Baby bunnies made an appearance today!
    That’s a good thing.

10/30–Beth’s van has been pulling to the left. I took it to have the alignment checked. They made it right. Yet, the van still pulled to the left. I was told it was the tires that were bad; who would have known? I went to a used tire place and bought two for $55 each.

Right away, the van was driving excellent.
Have you ever put used tires on your vehicle?
I’ve done that before, and both times, it turned out perfect.

10/31--Doctor, doctor, here we come. I’ve had a tooth that was bothering me. Dr. Cook did an x-ray, and I have a tooth in the back that needs help. Not having the money right now, I will have to live with it (for now.) Beth has had a sore knee. They did an x-ray, and she will eventually need knee replacement surgery. She will ultimately take care of it. For now, a frozen bag of corn helps with the pain.

After, since it is down south from here near the dentist, I returned to Costco for some items. As you know from before, I always end up getting there around lunchtime (planned?) Many different samples they usually have–my lunch.

11/1–Freezing weather today; yes, the cold spell hit. We will be running the fireplace all day.

I bought some flowers for Beth–that made her very happy.
I must do that more often!

11/2–Took care of the yard and plants today. Because of the sudden cold streak, the zucchini has all died, a sad thing. There is some lettuce and broccoli still living, which is a good thing.

We got some apples for free!
Of course, fresh apple sauce was on the menu.

11/3–Off to shopping at the markets today. We know of a few that still have lower prices, and we have stocked up.
With the massive changes coming, you should stock up, too.

IS IT TIME TO “MAKE” THINGS HAPPEN AND LIVE A FULLER LIFE?

TOPIC FOR THIS WEEK—You’re in Charge for Your Better Life!

Think back; you have accomplished amazing things in your life.
Can you relax now and breeze through life?
    The answer is NO!
You have more successes to discover.

Examine your life and what you have gone through.
    Ask yourself the following questions.
You may want to write down your answers  >>

What are your five best and five worst memories of your past?
If you knew you had one year left to live, would you change anything about how you live? Why?
What in your life do you feel most appreciative of?
If you could change anything about how you grew up, what would it be?
If you could wake up tomorrow having gained one skill or ability, what would it be?
What would you want to know if you found a crystal ball that could tell you about you?
Is there something you’ve desired to do for a long time? Why haven’t you done it?
What would you say is the most outstanding achievement of your life?
What functions do love and affection play in your life?
When did you last cry in front of another person? By yourself? Why?
What, if anything, is too severe for you to be joked about?
Of all the people in your family, whose death would you find most disturbing? Why?

Your answers will open a new and distinct future for you.

This set of questions may change your outlook on your life. Look through the questions and your answers a few times.

    MY DAILY JOTTINGS >>
Each week goes by so quickly, don’t you think?
Time is going faster all the time, it seems.
Do you keep track of what you do each day?
Do this for a few weeks, and you will see your time differently.

10/21–As I’ve written before, we collect rainwater to drink, bathe, and clean with. One roof does not have gutters, and we can collect rainwater from this roof after I put it on a gutter system. I’ve placed a 275-gallon tote on the ground to save the water. This, surprisingly, should fill up quickly with rainwater.

I’ve already put up a 55-galloon and a 100-galloon collector for rainwater. We use this water to give water to the plants and clean things. I had bought some filters to clean the water to be able to drink it, but I never got it going right.

I need to install gutters and a downspout to collect the H2O. I’ve never installed gutters, so a learning experience is in front of me. When I first lived here with Beth, I climbed a ladder several times to put on gutter guards on all the gutters to keep the leaves and such out of the channels.

Are you collecting rainwater? If not, it’s time to start. With the world changes, we can’t depend on the government as much and must become more self-sufficient. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you need help; I will gladly assist.

10/22–With all the big trees here, many leaves have landed on the grounds in this area. Sorting the leaves, I pulled out broken branches to use in the fire in the future. With a forest behind us, I deposited the leaves where they will eventually break down, and I will use the compost later in my gardens.

I have seen many people raking leaves. In houses I have lived at, I just raked the leaves onto the lawn and used a lawnmower to pick up and chop the leaves. The leaves were broken down even more by going through the mower before going into the composter.

In our house and yard, I always look for ways to improve things. Do you do the same where you live or how you live your life? You can continually improve things and yourself. Always keep looking for ways to enhance your living situation and your life.

10/23–hmm, what did I do today?

10/24–Beth and I never exchanged wedding rings in our marriage. She had picked up some cheap bands, which worked well until now. I wanted to give something special, and it finally happened.

Other words that come to mind for me >>
    Unique
    Peculiar
    Special
    Self-Directed
    Individual
    Distinctive
    Unusual
    Words I try and emulate.

By the way, that was the first time I ever used the word–emulate. I was trying to think of what to use, and this word entered my mind. I had to use a dictionary to see that I was using the word correctly. How about you? How often do you use a new word you have not used before?

I had a tooth in the lower front of my teeth that broke; one big piece came out. I thought that a part of me (the tooth) would be worth more than any diamond–since I grew it. I will get an inserted tooth in this space and still have a great smile.

Alligators and Sharks can regrow teeth. Why can’t humans?

Frank, the husband of the name, “Lee”’s Jewelry,  put the tooth on a gold ring band, and it turned out great. Lee and Beth have been friends for years.
    https://www.facebook.com/LeesjewelryofGW
    Beth loves her new ring.
Yes, she has part of me now.
Talk about a great wedding ring!

Beth said, funny, after I gave the ring to her.  >>
“Now I’m going to have to take the ring to a dentist annually for a check-up.”

10/25–There was a bee-bug that liked me. She just hovered around my head; interesting, yes.

Beth found a beautiful fungus that looked quite pretty. You will see a photo.

    10/26–
I took Beth’s car down to align the wheels. I was there for hours, as they discovered things wrong with the van. They made a list, and we will go to https://jiminy-fixit.com/ for repairs.

    New baby bunnies–again.

At Lows today, I saw a guy trying to load 4×8 sheets of plywood. I’ve done that before and know how difficult it is. He appreciated my help.

10/27–Jimmy found that we only needed a few things; happy about that I am.

    ON WONDERFUL ADVENTURES!

TOPIC FOR THIS WEEK—Skip to my Lou, my darling.
But don’t skip reading this blog!
When was the last time you skipped while walking?
(skipping is to land on each foot twice, a childhood thing.)

You are here to do great things, you, yes, you. You’re here to tap into your skills and into the things you enjoy to allow others to benefit from you. You are fulfilling your purpose. Fun and play can add to that purpose.

When was the last time you skipped?
When was the last time you jumped rope?
    How about jumping jacks?
    Have you juggled lately?
What “fun” things do you do?

So often, when we do something we enjoy but don’t seem “productive,” we feel guilty; I do anyway. Our logical mind whispers, “Why are you wasting your time doing this?”

The reality is that life offers so many beautiful gifts, and we can pay forward and find them. However, if we let our mind/ego run the show, we miss out on the most precious experiences. Bring joy into your life as you can.

Whether you know your purpose or not, allow yourself to play.
Allow your mind to find the joy and fun in life.
Listen to what your heart is calling for, and when time passes by in a flash, you will be having fun.
Play can and should be a significant part of your life.

    Yet >>
    Have you been feeling down?
Maybe you failed to ask for your worth in life.
You gave away too much and ended up drained.
Perhaps compromises left you with regret.
You’ve lost your childhood fun and play in life.
Despite your preparation, you rambled or needed more clarity.
You wanted to say no but couldn’t.

    GET INSPIRED!

“Inventing a toy isn’t just about creating a plaything. It’s about giving birth to joy, laughter, and wonder.” – Patricia Kislevitz.

“Games are not just about winning or losing. They are the journey, the laughter, and the shared memories created along the way.” – Reiner Knizia.

“The magic of toys is that they allow us to step into different worlds, explore various roles, and ultimately discover more about ourselves.” – Debra Sterling.

“Designing a game is like crafting a symphony – every piece must work harmoniously to create a beautiful, engaging experience.” – Shigeru Miyamoto.

“A great toy is like a good book. It opens many possibilities and lets the imagination soar.” – Mark Johnson.

“Games are the most elevated form of investigation. Every move and decision is a leap into a universe of possibilities.” – Eric Lang.

“Toys are the seeds from which the tree of creativity grows. Nourish them well, and watch imagination bloom.” – Pleasant Rowland

“In the world of games, the most important rule is this: There are no rules. Let your creativity guide you.” – Markus Persson.

“Toys can be stepping stones, guiding children towards a world filled with creativity, knowledge, and joy.” – H. Ty Warner

“In the realm of toys and games, we don’t grow older; we level up. And every level celebrates curiosity, imagination, and the joy of discovery.” – Will Wright.

    MY DAILY JOTTINGS >>
Each week goes by so quickly, don’t you think?
Time is going faster all the time, it seems.
Do you keep track of what you do each day?
Do this for a few weeks, and you will see your time differently.

10/14–Today, we watched the war in front of the TV.

10/15–Planted lettuce and broccoli today. These are cold-weather crops and will do fine in the cold. Have you done your second planting?

10/16–As you know, the cold weather is on the way. Our rabbits will need hay for warmth, so we got some today.

10/17–Currently, I have no purpose in my life. I’ve heard that life begins when you find your purpose. Your drive can change and then change again. The key is to find and apply and then apply yourself to something rather than just living a random life going nowhere. I guess, right now, my purpose is to get these words to you.

One purpose is to build my coffee tables. I worked on them today, and I have about ten to sell. Want to buy one?

10/18–Picked up Beth’s van. Right now, it is in great shape. She will be leaving soon to go and visit her parents in North Carolina. I will let you know . . .

10/19–About twice a month, I visit Costco; today was the day. While down there, I went to Best Buy with my computer. A few tips from the Geek Squad helped me out.

10/20–My memory is slipping. I need to remember what is essential and what is not necessary. How is your memory working?

Beth has been decorating around the house, which turned out nice.
Her succulents continue to grow and flourish, and she has other artwork on the walls.

TOPIC FOR THIS WEEK—The current and upcoming wars are awful to think about and imagine them coming to be. Yet, I believe that is something in our future. We MUST prepare now!

Beth and I have collected canned food, water, and other edibles. We have enough now to last us for about two months. I want to acquire more. We are working toward being off/grid as much as possible–Saving gallons and gallons of rainwater and having enough clothing and blankets to last us for some time.

I suggest you start collecting food and other things to keep you going for some time. Plan more and more to depend on yourself. Things will get complicated, but we all try to help as many others as possible.

All these wars result from different religious practices and ways of thinking. Most wars that humans have started were through spiritual paths. I’ve met diverse people who seem not to look other ways for life. We can all get along, putting religious beliefs behind us as we advance.

I’ve tried hard to believe but never heard or read anything rational and factual about a god. I’ve always had a forward focus and driven myself toward the excellence I can find through any problem or change.

As you read from my writings, I do not believe in any of the thousands of gods humans have created, or heaven, hell, or anything supernatural. After I have done much research, attended a multitude of churches of various religions, and met with assorted rabbis, priests, and pastors, I have yet to hear words that would bring me to belief.

If you can communicate with me sincere words that might change my mind about belief, please do. I just wish people would return to life and leave religious ideas in the past.

but because he loves what is behind him.”
    ― G.K. Chesterton

“War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.”
    ― J.R.R. Tolkien

“It is forbidden to kill; therefore, all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets.”

    They are not.
    They are running at me.”

    ― Sun Tzu

“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron.”
    ― Dwight D. Eisenhower

“It is not seen as insane when a fighter, under an attack that will inevitably lead to his death, chooses to take his own life first. This act has been encouraged for centuries and is accepted as an honorable reason to do the deed. How is it different when you are under attack by your mind?”
    ― Emilie Autumn

    MY DAILY JOTTINGS >>
Each week goes by so quickly, don’t you think?
Time is going faster all the time, it seems.
Do you keep track of what you do each day?
Do this for a few weeks, and you will see your time differently.

10/7–I often take Jemma for a walk/run on the road in front of our house. There is a horse barn about 275 meters away. We most often go down there. I have put together a routine where she has to come to me at the door, then I suddenly release her, and she runs super fast down the road. It is fun for both her and me.

10/8–After our walk this morning, the horses came down for their daily feeding of carrots. I love animals, so it is fantastic for me. Then, later, the two giant dogs who live at a house nearby came for a visit. Jemma got along with each of them warmly, which was nice to see.

10/9–Back to working on the coffee tables I built. Each is turning out fantastic. I am not sure what price I will put on them, but I will let you know.

And Beth worked on her succulents–looking great, they are.

10/10–Beth will take off tomorrow for her trip to visit her parents. But she took her van to have it checked out by
    https://www.loc8nearme.com/south-carolina/mccormick/whites-service-center/2305253/
The van would not even start for them.
So, they are looking into it and will let us know.
We may need another vehicle soon.
Do you have some wheels that we could buy for a low price?

10/11–Memory, memory, what did I do today? How about this: what did you do on Oct. 11?

10/12–Beth and I watched “Coma”. The footage showed people who had gone through a brain injury and their recovery back to life. I feel pretty fortunate that I made the recovery that I did. In the video, we saw people who could not walk and/or talk. It made me sad to see what they have had to go through.

10/13–Friday the 13th, yikes. Because of the massive changes in the world right now, Beth and I decided to remain home today. I’m not trying to scare you, but you must prepare for the changing future.

    BE TAKEN AWAY WITH ME
    ON WONDERFUL ADVENTURES!

    ********************
TOPIC FOR THIS WEEK—Change–I’ve gone through many changes, as you might know.

Change is one of the most difficult things that many humans can not deal with. Because of my accidents and other surprise changes, I had to learn to deal with the change.

Here are some suggestions that can help >>

    1. Learn to accept what has happened
Approval is a big word, but it can really help. Some people see that as giving up, yet it is better to see it as coming to terms with how things are for now.

    2. Pace yourself
If you have had a brain injury or are recovering from a procedure, you may not be able to do as much as you used to. This can be hard to adjust to because we lead busy lives like I had wanted after awakening from my coma. Pacing yourself may actually help you do more rather than having a setback because you’ve done too much.

    3. Ask for help from friends and loved ones
Acceptance is a big word, but it can really help. Could you talk with others about our troubles? It will help.

Yet, it can be hard to ask for help, especially if you think you’re already a burden because of your situation. People often want to help but won’t know how unless you tell them what you need. Try not to think, ‘If they really loved me, they would know what I need’ – our friends and loved ones are not mind readers.

And tell people if the support you’re getting isn’t the support you need. For example, your friends and family may want to do everything for you, but it can be an important part of your recovery to do things for yourself.

    4. Look for new opportunities
There may be things you enjoy that you can’t do anymore, like the juggling skill level I was at. It’s normal to mourn losing things like this. A useful thing to say is, ‘What can I do instead?’

Instead of juggling, you might be taking up cycling, especially if a heart condition means you can’t run anymore, finding a new hobby, or volunteering instead of what you used to do.

    5. Carry a ready reminder
You can get a small card that you can carry with you and write down on it a strategy that works for you when you are feeling down. It might be to ‘Practice juggling,’ ‘Go for a walk,’ ‘Phone my sister,’ or ‘Make an appointment with my Doctor’.

    6. Have a strategy for dealing with your stress
Like I wrote, you can often see it coming before. There may be times when you find things hard to deal with. Yes, you can train yourself. Learn to recognize when you are becoming stressed and have strategies that you find helpful. This can be anything that works for you, but tips that often help are slowing down your breathing or going outside to somewhere you can see greenery and hear birdsong.

You can also try visualizing a time or place when you felt calm and happy. Think with your senses – what the temperature was like, what you could hear, what you could smell. The more you get used to doing this, the faster you can return to that place.

    7. Have a story that you can tell easily
Having a practice can help introduce some stability in your life. Often when you have a health problem, you get asked about it by friends or acquaintances. That can be exhausting and mean you feel like a condition rather than a person.

It can be useful to come up with a story that you use every time and tell easily without going into too much detail. Then, turn the conversation around to something else that is not your health. Of course, with people you’re close to, you might want to go into more detail about your health. That can help too.

    8. Give yourself time
It may take weeks or months to accept what has happened and learn to live with it. You may need to mourn for what you feel you have lost.

    9. Involve yourself with others
People are here to help us. Could you talk with others who have had the same experience? This might mean joining a brain injury support group or connecting with others online, such as on our online community.

    10. Get into a practice
Having a routine can help introduce some tranquility in your life. Try to have regular meals and to eat a balanced diet, even if you don’t feel much like eating. Looking after yourself physically will help your mental well-being, too. Exercise can help, too, but start gently.

    11. Avoid self-medicating with alcohol or drugs
Alcohol or drugs can sometimes make things seem easier to deal with, but they will stop you from accepting what has happened. They can also cause depression and other health problems.

    12. Don’t make significant life changes
If you can avoid it, don’t make big decisions immediately when you might still be in shock about what happened. Your judgment may not be at its best, and it might take time before you can tell whether, for example, your health will allow you to go back to work or if you need to change your living arrangements.

    GET INSPIRED!

    MY DAILY JOTTINGS >>
Each week goes by so quickly, don’t you think?
Time is going faster all the time, it seems.
Do you keep track of what you do each day?
Do this for a few weeks, and you will see your time differently.

9/30–I get so excited each week to put out my blog. Not knowing what the next blog subject is always a challenge. Of course, you know there are billions of ideas to jump forward from.

Free Ice Cream! Mary, who ran Alpine Ice Cream Parlor, died, and in memory of her, they were giving free ice cream away. We brought Nancy, and each had a double, what a wonderful thing.

10/1–Awakening about 3am, my usual wake-up time, it was onto the computer to write some words for you. Good morning to you. I seem to do fine with little sleep, do you get much shuteye?

Today I worked on various projects and made advancements. I hope you made it a great day.

10/2–Normally, I like to keep my weight at 161. I went to the doctor, and I am 182. I guess that’s what eating well and no exercise does to you—time to jump on my bike and put in some miles each day. My asthma has gotten so bad it is hard to breathe when I run. And juggling will no longer keep my weight down because I can’t juggle so well.

How about you? Are you at a weight you are comfortable with?

Speaking of weight, Beth made a big batch of chocolate chip cookies.
It’s hard to stay away from them, yikes.
This is a recipe I developed.
Make some; you will love them!

    Chocolate chip cookies
    3 sticks butter
    1 1/2 cups sugar
    1 1/2 cups brown sugar
    2 tablespoons Kahlua
    2 tablespoons vanilla
    4 eggs
    5 1/2 cups flour
    2 teaspoons baking soda
    2 teaspoons salt

    325 for 15 minutes

10/3–Do not remember what happened today whoops.

10/4 I worked on my table designs for most of the day. I use screws to hold the legs to the bottom, but the filler I use to cover the screw heads does not stain the same as the rest of the wood. I must find a way to cover these screw heads that is hard to detect–and I will.

The tables are turning out beautiful.
    I have included some photos.
I would love to hear from you about them.

10/5–Beth saw that Corleysmarket.com had more succulents in, so off we went. After, Beth treated us to an all-you-can-eat Chinese Food place. Quite tasty, and, I ate all I could.

10/6–Worked on my planters again. There is a local farmer’s market that I plan to sell them at. I’m not sure of the pricing, I will figure it out and let you know.

IS IT TIME TO “MAKE” THINGS HAPPEN AND LIVE A FULLER LIFE?
