TOPIC FOR THIS WEEK — Yes, you will die

    (NO PHOTOS THIS WEEK, SORRY)

Some blogs back, I wrote about our eventual death, which we all will find. This subject has been on my mind again recently; I had to write more about our demise. At the age of 64, I am approaching my final days (although I hope to live beyond 100.) Are you going to live long enough?

Also, in the last blog, I wrote about going to food banks to get food. I did not write; most of the food we get is given to needy people in the area. We have enough to hold us for the future for some months.

    How are you helping others?
    Are you gathering food?
Are you helping others to acquire food?

The sad thing, I am not hearing from my daughters. I miss you, Jasmine, April, and Leah, and would love to hear from you.

==With the changes in the world, we all need to be more self-reliant.
==With modifications, we need to help others get through change.
==Start now to get food for your future and help people around you.
==We must work together to get through these life changes.

Life is basically living a death sentence. I previously wrote about death and thought it was an essential subject of life and death. Most young people do not think of their upcoming death; I never did. I did not think about death when I was 23 and the first time I got hit by a truck.

With the media overwhelming things these days, death is getting more exposure. Seems that more and more people are passing away. But it is simply that the news of someone dying is getting more publicity. Will I have that media coverage of my death? Will You?

What fascinates me is the fact that there are no other animals that see their death as coming, only humans. That bug you squished recently had no idea his end was arriving. And more and more people seem to be passing away. I think it is just because of the openness of media these days more deaths are being publicized.

Help others until you die. Death marks the point when your vital organs stop working to keep you alive. The actual moment of death is often just one part of a more involved process of dying, where your body slowly shuts down. Help others all you can until your end.

Knowing what to expect before your death, at the moment, and even after death, can help you face the experience when the time comes. Yes, even you will die one day.

I built a fourteen-foot unicycle back in high school and rode it a lot–way up there. After I fell off it the third time, I gave it away.
I hope the guy I gave it to did not get hurt. I sometimes juggled 5 torches and/or 5 machetes. I am alive and have all my fingers still.

(This is not my 14′ unicycle, 7′, halfway there)

    DANGER–I SOMETIMES AIMED FOR IT.

A few times, through different accidents, I was on death’s door, as they say. My first accident involved a 37-day coma and my recovery. I was told that if my accident had occurred just five years prior, I would not have lived and come back as I did.

Then, eighteen years after the first, I got hit by a truck again. This time, my brain did not get damaged, but my body was broken much. Both times, the accidents were not my fault. Part of life–and part of death.

Also, as I get older, the idea of my demise is growing. What comes to mind is, “What do I want to accomplish before my eventual death?” I want to be known for helping people in their lives. Am I helping you with these blog words?  Hmm, what will your legacy be?

Just last week, Rosalynn Carter died at the age of 96. This woman lived a grand life, which included helping many people. The news said, “It is so sad that Rosalynn Carter died.” Mrs. Carter lived a fantastic life, and 96 is a ripe old age; there should be no sadness at death.

Death is not a sad thing; it should be expected. Seems that, on someone’s death, we should be celebrating their accomplishments, love, and how they might have added to the life of others on earth. Death is not so sad, and it is a part of life. What’s sad is it’s a part of life that people seldom talk about.

Yes, it made me sad when, at the age of 82, my mom perished. But she also lived to a good age. I have to tell you I cried real tears while there. I’ve gone to funerals before and saw most people standing around and just crying. This should be a time to celebrate this person’s accomplishments and love.

As I die, I hope there is no drastic pain involved, and I do not want to be a burden to others. I want my body to be laid in a forest so that bugs and creatures will feast on me and my energies will not be wasted. I hate the idea of being put into a box and the box into a cemetery. What a waste of part of the earth.

As you know, I have never believed in any of the gods humans invented, so that will not be a part of my death.

    How about this >>
Death is the irreversible cessation of all your vital functions, especially as indicated by the permanent stoppage of your heart, respiration, and brain activity–the end of life and brain death.

So, get out there and make this a better world for all those who will come after you are gone.

Now is the time — get going!

    Who wants to live forever?

How can you plan for your upcoming death?

WHAT NEW STORIES ARE YOU READY TO WRITE?

    MY DAILY JOTTINGS >>
Each week goes by so quickly, don’t you think?
Time is going faster all the time, it seems.
Do you keep track of what you do each day?
Keep track for a few weeks; you will see your time differently.

12/2–Awakening at about 3am again; this has become a habit. It seems as though I get enough sleep. Would 4 hours a night qualify as “enough?”

My foot hurts tremendously. Last week, I saw a podiatrist because I thought I had something in my foot. It turned out that I had developed a wart on the ball of my foot. She immediately knew what it was and used something to burn it off. That is why I have severe pain today. Hoping it will heal fast.

Standing was difficult because my foot hurt , so I did not achieve much today.

12/3–My standard sleep time is awakening at about 3am. My foot feels better today; I’m happy about that.

I was going to work on the gardens today. Raindrops will fall most of the day, so there will be no garden work.

The rains did not fall all day. I got out and put plastic inside the 4’x8’ planter. Took most of the day to accomplish that. Just one more garden to go, and then all will be ready for planting. I still have some lettuce growing in that one garden. Today, I picked a bunch for salads. It’s so lovely to be able to produce the things that I eat.

This afternoon, Beth and I watched a black-and-white movie from 1939 called “Meet Dr. Christian,” a good flick. The subject of this blog is death, and I have to say that all of the actors in the film we watched today are dead. Life is brief, and we have a short time to accomplish what we want. And, as I try and do, find all the joy you can while you are here.

12/4–It’s like there is an alarm clock in my brain. No matter when I lay down to get some shuteye, it was about 10pm last night, and my mind awakens at about 3am, daily.

Worked on the gardens some, between rain coming down in the area. Also, I went to a Home Depot to ask if they had any dirt in damaged bags. As bags get thrown around, some get damaged. I got five big bags for $1.35 each, usually about ten bucks a bag. A great deal that will add to my gardens.

How about you? Will you be growing your things to eat, as I suggested? Ask at your home store garden area, such as Lowe’s or Home Depot, about bags of dirt. Ask if they have any dirt in damaged bags that you can get for cheaper (often more than half-off). Start building your garden with these.

In the past, I wrote about how I built my gardens; I would like to let you know again. I got six pallets to construct each garden, two on each side and one at each end. I cut each pallet at 22” on the long side. I put the used two-inch drywall screws to connect them together.

After they were connected, I used 2”x6” lumber to go around the top and screwed this down, which also held each planter solid. Then, I stained the top wood and painted the sides green, like in the photo. You can sit on them at this height to watch your garden grow. Contact me with any questions —
    kitsummers@gmail.com

At 22” with a 2” x 6” on top, it makes a great place to sit down and watch your garden grow. It was below-freezing last night. A few things are still growing, but I think they are done now.

12/5–I slept in until about 4am today. I seem to do better with limited sleep. How about you? Did you have a good night’s sleep?

12/6–Awake about 1am today; up for the day I am. Sleep only appeals to me a little; it is necessary but a waste of time.

Most of the day was spent working on the gardens. I’ve added many leaves to each garden, which will break down by the next season and add much to the dirt.

12/7–Beth is off today to visit her parents in North Carolina. A four-hour trip, each way, she should be a-OK. I will be here by myself for four days.

Today, I built a shelf/rack for the bathroom. There are too many things to go on the sink, but all necessary. So, now we have plenty of room for all.

When I see something that needs to be done or improved upon, I get right on it and take the challenge.

12/8–Today, I worked on the shelf I am building to go above the bedroom windows. It’s turning out excellent.

TOPIC FOR THIS WEEK — Reach for Excellence!

In my life, I have aimed for excellence from a young age. By “excellence,” I mean doing whatever you do to the best of your ability. Starting in junior high school and riding my unicycle, I tried every trick I could and advanced quickly.

This led me to juggling, where I always tried to be the best I could.
On to juggling 7 clubs, a world record at the time.
In high school, pole-vaulting: I flew over the bar at 18’6”, a record.
Then, of course, there was my accident and the 37-day coma I had to come back from.
Writing my book, Juggling with Finesse”, was a significant aim toward excellence in my life.
Starting small, like brushing my teeth myself, I had to perfect every detail of the task.

Pursuing excellence is essential if we live life to the fullest and make maximum impact on those around us. This requires hard work and dedication. It’s about consistently doing your best and challenging yourself to exceed the standard.

This process can be rewarding and challenging, and the accomplishment at the end of each day is a powerful motivator to keep you going.

Remember that excellence isn’t a fixed point to reach and forget about; it’s a continuous journey. It’s about setting realistic goals that align with your larger life aspirations. Every day, every effort you make toward those objectives is a triumph. Acknowledge your strengths, and be compassionate about the areas where you need to improve.

No matter your problem, if you break things down and do your darndest, you will aim for the excellence you seek. Once you start toward the habit of excellence, you can strive for excellence in all you do. Do the work; make this a pattern in your life.

In our quest for excellence, it’s vital to understand that this pursuit is not about chasing an elusive state of perfection. Instead, it’s about striving to be a better version of ourselves each day. The journey toward excellence is marked by hard work, a sense of accomplishment, and a commitment to constant learning.

Understanding is your crucial partner to excellence for yourself and others. It’s essential to approach your journey with kindness and self-forgiveness. Welcome your imperfections, for they are a part of what makes you uniquely human.

As we navigate the complexities of life and “juggle” various responsibilities, let us remind ourselves that excellence isn’t about being the best in all fields–instead–it is excelling in the areas that truly matter to us. It’s about recognizing our strengths, handling our weaknesses, and embracing the journey of self-improvement with enthusiasm.

As you reflect on your improvements at the end of each day, remember that pursuing excellence isn’t about reaching perfection; it’s about improving yourself daily. You may have gone through a brain injury and are still in a wheelchair, having trouble speaking. You can still aim for and find the excellence that you can!

The mindset of excellence is a commitment to personal growth as you help others to reach their goals. Aiming for excellence is more than a unique experience; it is a belief in your abilitybto improve and a dedication to the journey, no matter how challenging.

Pursuing excellence means living life to the fullest, significantly impacting us and those around us, thus evolving into the best version of ourselves, one day at a time. So, let’s continue this journey, taking each step with determination, compassion, and a commitment to becoming a better version of ourselves with every passing day.

Now, let’s look at the ways you can reach excellence and prevent lapse >>

    1. Know your desires, your strengths, and your weaknesses.
Sometimes, just writing down a list of your strengths and weaknesses can provide a clear perspective. Please note the areas you need to work on and pat yourself on the back for those strengths.

    2. Set realistic goals to aim for.
Work hard, work bright and with intelligence, and do it consistently. Superiority will require you to stretch your boundaries, push your limits, and live to your highest potential. If you feel you are losing your motivation, make yourself accountable to another person. Surround yourself with positive, supportive people who will encourage and help keep you motivated.

    3. Focus–Focus–Focus.
Procrastination is your enemy, but so is distraction. Do you make poor determinations? Decisions that distract you from your goals and your ability to seek the excellence you want? Be aware of the patterns, then take a few minutes to prioritize and reduce your list to just one week at a time, realizing that mistakes and defects are a natural part of the process.

    4. Take care of your health–both mental and physical.
Do you have pride in yourself and your work? Are you frustrated because your goal isn’t turning out as you first imagined? Learn to change with the changes. Take time to refresh, rest, and take a break when you need. Don’t let yourself fall into the trap of being a victim. Remember, it’s okay if you make mistakes; learn from them and use them as opportunities for growth and improvement.

    5. Become a sponge for wisdom.
Continuous learning widens your horizons. Stay humble and draw from others who have gone before you; learn from the best. Look for computer sites to help you strive for the excellence that you seek.

    6. Be aware of the company you keep.
Surrounding yourself with excellence is a great motivator.
Others are looking for you, too. Find others and join them toward their excellence.
    Stay away from negative people.

    7. Always stay on top of things.
Integrity is the value that should be at the top of your list. Others will notice when you follow through on what you set before you. Even more beneficial is that you can look back and see how far you have come–you will inspire others and yourself!

    8. Choosing to excel despite the level of hardship.
If excellence were accessible, no one would choose mediocracy. Keep going. Keep moving. Remind yourself of the why. Write things down and stick it to your mirror if you have to. But choose to do the hard stuff.

    9. Be open to change because changes will come.
If you resist change and choose to stick to your old ways, you stand to lose out on the continued opportunities and possibilities to grow and better your life. Don’t strive for perfection in what you do. Strive for excellence. Learn to change with the changes along the way.

    10. Maintain an upbeat attitude about what you do, yourself, and your goal.
Excellence is not the eventual goal; it’s a mindset and a way of life. Believe in your ability to improve, and you’ll see yourself always at the top.

    TOPIC FOR THIS WEEK—BALANCE.

In my last blog post, I wrote about living for the moment–each instant.
I have since found the following words that will benefit you >>

“There is indeed nothing other than the single purpose of the present moment.
A person’s life is a succession of moment after moment.
When one fully understands the present moment,
there will be nothing else to do and nothing else to pursue. “
    Yamamoto Tsunetomo

The past is a memory; the future is our imagination. <<>> Kit Summers

As a juggler, I did much balance five feet long.
** To balance, you must focus on the top of the object you want to balance.
** Calmly move your hand so that the top stays over the hand.
** First, learn to balance on your hand, then your chin.
** Cut 10 inches off the pole and balance this.
** Cut more and more off as you improve.
** Drop to one knee while maintaining a balance.
** Learn to balance on your elbows, shoulders, and feet.
** Balance a club while you juggle 3 more.

Balance? Because of my accident, I still have trouble balancing on one foot. I can ride a unicycle, but that is just controlling the unicycle under you. I used to ride my unicycle much, even after the accident. But, since I’ve not been riding, my skill on the single wheel is diminished.

There is life balance, too. As I was recovering from my 37-day coma, I often thought that I would never improve. After some time, I realized that my depression and sadness would be gone soon, and I would be back on a good path. When I was doing great, I told myself I “might” be back down again.

Balance is the key. Having balance in life can lead to a good life or, without, a not-so-good life. When you are down and feeling like giving up, remember that it is temporary; you will soon again be happy, and things will go better for you. If you can maintain this thought, you will never suffer from depression.

Balanced living means reaching optimal health in all aspects of your life. In relationships, work, fitness, health, and emotional happiness. We all get so caught up in work and family responsibilities that we must remember to make time for ourselves.

Balance facilitates our busy everyday lives. However, it is impossible to have a complete or perfect balance. Balance is stability, from managing time correctly to eating healthy to being mindful in one’s thinking.

Also, meditating or doing visualization exercises daily is one easy way to regain control of a stress-filled life. Finding a quiet room and unplugging can make a big difference.

    Ideas to help >>
    1. Accept.
Take time to look at your life–what state of mind–how you feel.
Please be honest with yourself and notice the areas of your life that you aren’t.

    2. Study.
Notice if you’re relying more on an internal or external focus or if there are areas within each category that you want to be more balanced.

    3. Set Goals.
Make plans and write your goals down to balance your life. Make lists of dreams and goals you have.

    4. Plan Lessons.
Could you list daily, weekly, and monthly tasks you must do to reach each goal?
What have you tried in the past?
    Did it work?
If not, what can you do differently?

    5. Reminisce.
What are the most important things you’ve achieved in the past?
How did you stay focused on this goal?
How did you handle your fears, doubts, and negative self-talk?
How does it feel to know that you accomplished the goal despite these parts of yourself?

    6. Prepare.
What inner “things” will try to keep you from sticking to your plan (fears, doubts, worries, negative self-talk)? Can you determine what you will say to yourself to push you off track? (For example: “Just one more bite now, I’ll start eating better later.”)

    7. Certify.
What do you need to remember in those times?
What are things you can say to that self-sabotaging part of yourself?
    Be kind to yourself.
Balance won’t feel good if you’re cruel to yourself in creating it!

    8. Connect.
Is there a person or a tactic you can use to keep yourself supported, motivated, and focused in those hard times? Connecting and sharing your inner process with someone is highly recommended . Find someone who can help you challenge your inner demons and celebrate your little accomplishments.

Like any life goal, overcoming customary patterns and creating new ones takes time and effort. If you stay on track with this elaborate and purposeful process for three months, you will likely develop new habits to enjoy a more balanced life in the future!

They are so interesting, challenging, and essential on our path to joy, happiness, and finding ways to inspire ourselves and others.

Inspirational quotes and ideas give us a quick and timely burst of wisdom to get our focus back, offering the inspiration needed for the day or occasion.

Are you accomplishing what you want before your eventual death?
At any age, you can (and should) make changes to make your life better.

How you think and feel about yourself, including your beliefs and expectations about what is possible, determines everything in your life, and it all derives from your quality of thinking.

WHEN YOU IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF YOUR THINKING,
YOU CHANGE THE QUALITY OF YOUR LIFE—SOMETIMES INSTANTLY!

Just as positive words can make someone smile, and a well-timed amusing quote can make someone laugh, your thoughts react to the world in real-time. You have this control!

You have complete control over only one thing in the universe — Your Thinking —and that’s where motivational quotes come in!

To keep your motivation, you have to use each day as an opportunity to improve and get closer to your goals. It might sound like a lot of work—and with your busy schedule—next to impossible. But you can do it!

    Self-talk is so essential—THINK RIGHT!

Motivational words, yes, they are just words.
But they are positive words; they will keep you on track.

Don’t forget that you are only as young as the last time you changed your mind!
Keep your thoughts and self-talk fun and productive, and always reach for more advancement.

    MY DAILY JOTTINGS >>
Each week goes by so quickly, don’t you think?
Time is going faster all the time, it seems.
Do you keep track of what you do each day?
Keep track for a few weeks; you will see your time differently.

11/11–Someone wanted a bunny for a friend who wants to give it to someone else as a marriage present.
The rabbit’s name is Alice, what a great gift. We drove the rabbit 60 miles round-trip and made someone happy.

11/12–Every once in a while, I like to attend a church. I go to try and figure out why people believe. It seems to me that people often attend because they think they “have” to. As you know, I have attended many churches worldwide; things go the same everywhere.

A few blocks away from us is facebook.com/narrowwaybaptist.

To see if many attended, I had to go and see. Smiles all around, a good thing to see.

Yes, seeing the social communication for the 37 people there is great. This church was just like the many I have gone to around the world–Some singing, some praying, a pastor talks for a while, a hat is passed for money, and after about an hour and a half, people head home.

Faith was a big part of what occurred today. For me, having faith is an excuse when you don’t have any realistic proof or evidence for something.

Faith can be generated for anything; I have faith that there is no god; what does it all matter, anyway?
Some other words for “faith” are >> confidence, belief, and conviction.

11/13–Today, I cut up more wood to use on the fire. As you know, I get the wood for free from Ken Young. He buys piles of giant trees and cuts them down to 2”x4” boards and such. What I get from him is the scrap wood he can’t use.

Also, on the side cuts, I use these for the tables I make. I screw four legs into the bottom, then sand the top smooth. Next, I put stain on the tables and a clear coating over them. These coffee tables turn out fantastic.

I put a bird feeder outside our bedroom window, see?

11/14–Putting in another rain barrel to collect the rain droplets. Right now, we have two that hold 100 gallons each, the one that I just put in that holds 55 gallons. And the last will be the 275-gallon tote. We will happily drink water while, perhaps, systems go down. Are you thirsty?

Beth made a batch of chocolate chip cookies, which turned out excellent. This is a recipe that I developed some years ago. Have you made some yet? Make some of these cookies–you will love them >>

    Chocolate chip cookies

    4 cups of flour
    3 sticks softened butter
    1 1/2 cups sugar
    1 1/2 cups brown sugar
    2 tablespoons Kahlua
    2 tablespoons vanilla
    4 eggs
    2 teaspoons baking soda
    1 teaspoon salt
    325 for 15 minute

Also, today, I  made noodles. Homemade noodles are the best! Have you had them, you must. I have a hand crank that kneads the dough.

    Noodles
    3 egg yolks
    1 whole egg
    2 tbs water
    1 tsp olive oil
    1/2 tsp salt
    2 cups flour

11/15–Don Atwell from up the street came over with his chainsaw and helped me cut up the wood I got from Ken Young. At this point, I have plenty of wood to help us through this winter and next.

11/16–The city of McCormick, where I live, is giving away Thanksgiving meals today. I came over two hours early, not expecting many people here yet. I got in line behind nine cars. It is an hour and 15 minutes before they start; there must be over 33 cars here now. In the end, over fifty cars must have gone through.

    Feeding the masses they are.

We had an addition to our farm–parakeets! They are quiet ones.

11/17–With many large trees around us, plenty of leaves are used for compost. As you might know, I built eight 4’x8’ gardens. I have soil on the bottom 3/4 of each planter. I put a layer of leaves over the top, and by the next planting season, the leaves should break down to make great dirt.

TOPIC FOR THIS WEEK—Live for the moment!

Living in the moment is some of the best advice to take. People usually arrive at this decision because they have been made keenly aware of how short life is.

This acknowledgment is most often brought on by a tragedy, like my accident and 37-day coma. But don’t think you should wait until disaster strikes to start living your life for you! When I finally relaxed and saw that my life would never be the same, I began to recover. I smiled more and really experienced life. I tried to take it all in–partaking each moment and smiling.

After the accident, I could not walk.
    Communication was difficult.
My thinking could have been clearer.
I was thinking of giving up on life.
Then I noticed I was just seeing “the big picture.”
When I broke things down, I could see clearly.
Deciding to make each tiny moment magnificent, things got much better.

Making each moment of our life unique and pleasurable will make our whole life fantastic!
All you have to do is decide what to do “now” and live for the next moment.
    Don’t linger on the future.
    Don’t waver in the past.
Focus on the present moment and make each moment magnificent.

Many people want to learn more about how to live in the moment. Most of us live in the past and/or the future. How often do you find yourself thinking about what happened yesterday or what might happen tomorrow? How does this affect your life and well-being in the now?

Learning to be more mindful and live in the moment can give you a greater appreciation for your life, help reduce stress, and minimize anxiety.

Please open up and see what is there.
    How do the walls look?
What about the floor or ceiling—what patterns can you see there?
How many windows are there to your left and right?
How many lights can you count from here?

One way to be in the present moment is by noticing your surroundings. How often do you take time out of your day to look around and see what’s happening? When was the last time you sat down, closed your eyes, took a deep breath, and looked at everything around you?

Research shows that when you focus entirely on what’s happening at that moment, you can better remember details in the long term. Constantly thinking about the past and worrying about the future can make it challenging to enjoy the good things in your life here and now. Learning to be more mindful and live in the moment can give you a greater appreciation for your life, help reduce stress, and minimize anxiety.

Focusing on one thing at a time is helpful when you are learning to live in the moment. While it may feel more productive to multitask and work on more than one thing at a time, constantly juggling multiple projects makes living in the present moment hard. See all and focus on each.

Given the inevitability of death and knowing that it could strike at any time, there’s one remedy that prevails for many people: live in the moment. That’s all you’re insured — the now, the present. Make each moment fabulous, and you will have a remarkable life.

Looking too far ahead and contemplating the future is bold.
Living in the past freezes you and doesn’t get you anywhere.
    Live for the now–always!

Living in the moment is challenging because we are not rewarded by staying in the present moment. We are awarded for our achievements and overworking.

Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have. Make the Now the primary focus of your life.
    Eckhart Tolle

    Thich Nhat Hanh

To become mindfully aware of our surroundings is to bring our thinking back to our present moment reality and to the possibility of some semblance of serenity in the face of circumstances outside our ability to control.

Our present moment is a mystery that we are part of. Here and now is where all the wonder of life lies hidden. And make no mistake about it, to strive to live completely in the present is to strive for what already is the case.
    Wayne Dyer

Meditation has taught me to be in the present moment and observe the present moment at the same time. Just breathe, follow your breath, and your intuition can take you from there.

    MY DAILY JOTTINGS >>
Each week goes by so quickly, don’t you think?
Time is going faster all the time, it seems.
Do you keep track of what you do each day?
Keep track for a few weeks; you will see your time differently.

11/3–I always feel good after I publish my blog each week. I do hope my words add to your life in some way.

With the cold snap, it is great to have a fireplace, which is in the center of the house. On one side are bedrooms, the other side has the living room, and the final side is what we call, “The Fire Room” (I wonder why?)

Because we often use the fire room, our heating costs for the house are relatively low. And, of course, it is pretty nice to watch the fire as it burns down. Remember, I get the wood for free. We are working toward becoming totally self-sufficient in this home.

11/4–As usual, I awoke at about 3am this morning. Discovered that the cold weather, including frost, killed most of my plants. Yet, lettuce and broccoli are still growing alright, a good thing.

11/5–Today, I am working on my rainwater collecting containers. At this point, I have two that collect 100 gallons each and another that holds 55 gallons. Later, after I put the gutters on the roof, the rainwater will go to a 275-gallon holder for the water.

We will use the water to spread on plants, clean with, and later, will funnel the water through filters to be able to drink it.

11/6–Being retired now, we live life how WE want. Beth and I migrated to the bed, along with Jemma, and got some afternoon shut-eye; nice.

11/7–Hmm, can’t remember this day now, did it happen?

11/8–When I first moved in here with Beth, she had a front porch with three steps to get up on. I do not like steps, so I built a ramp to make walking easier. We had since bought a new fridge and clothes washer, so they quickly pulled these up to go right into the house.

    How about you?
Do you have any simple changes to your house to make your life easier?

11/9–We awoke to a fabulous pink sunrise. This earth we live on is an amazing place, yes?
We went out and discovered Dolly-Kitty asleep on a plant, how cute.
And, there was Jemma playing in one of the gardens.

11/10–Today, we went to Greenwood for Beth’s doctoring.

Beth wrote this: After my hearing test, I walked back into the waiting room to a room of people looking at me. I know this is something we all do, but I find it unnerving, so I announced to the room, “Well, I need hearing aids. I just thought you should know.

The optometrist was next. How do we just get old? Why am I using words like “knee replacement”, “hearing aids”, and  “stronger lenses for glasses?” ,

One day I am chasing after my children and the next, I am barely able to lift my leg to the next step. Some people escape this version of aging but not my family. I think my sisters and I were old when we were born.

TOPIC FOR THIS WEEK—What will you leave behind you?

YOUR CHOICE–WHAT DO YOU WANT YOUR LEGACY TO BE?

Even if you have gone through a significant life change, such as my accident and 37-day coma, or have little money or success in life, you can still add to the world and make things better for society. That should be your primary aim–you can not die until you have done something to help the world.

And, if you are successful and filthy rich, you, of course, need to add to future human lives in some way. This needs to be the main objective of how people live their lives. You are not here for just you; you need to do whatever you can to make life better for others–now and in the future.

IN THIS WORLD, IF EVERYONE TRIES TO MAKE A BETTER LIFE FOR ALL OF US,
THIS WILL BE A BETTER WORLD FOR EVERYONE!

For myself, all my life, I have driven myself to go for more, not necessarily working on my legacy, just always aiming toward the excellence I could find for myself and others. But, I am still determining what I will be most remembered for. It may be sticking to writing this blog and trying to make your life better.

Your legacy does not have to be a huge thing. Simply helping someone else could be your legacy. It is a matter of supporting and improving the world somehow.

Sad news this week: Matthew Perry died. He established his legacy and brought smiles to billions of faces by performing on Friends. Once again, this shows us that we have a limited time while alive. I urge you to make the most of the time you have left.

The too-soon passing of Matthew Perry seriously saddens everyone. He brought so much joy to hundreds of millions of people worldwide with his pitch-perfect comedic timing and wit. His legacy will live on through countless generations.

THE DEFINITION OF “LEGACE” IS SOMETHING THAT IS PASSED DOWN.

But Legacy can take many forms >>>
A Legacy may be of one’s ethics and/or core values.
A Legacy may be monetary or your assets, which are passed down.
A Legacy can simply be helping that old lady who is down the street.
A Legacy may come from one’s character, reputation, and the life you lead.

It can be setting an example for others and guiding their futures.

YOU MUST CONSTANTLY BE WORKING ON YOUR LEGACY.

A legacy grasps your life and the lessons learned along the way, or it honors things that were most important to you, such as a skill or cause or an interest. Having a lasting legacy means that you share these deeper meanings with friends, family, and posterity.

Everyone creates and retells their story — your life tale connects you to your community and distinguishes you from the lives of others. In other words, your legacy is what makes you unique. It is more than just giving you good family stories to tell.

A legacy captures your life and lessons learned along the way, or it honors things that were most important to you, such as a cause or an interest like helping others. Having a lasting legacy means that you share these deeper meanings with friends, family, and posterity.

As you develop your legacy, inventory everything in your life that makes it uniquely yours. Live a lifetime of remembrances and family accounts that reflect your accomplishments and motivations. These stories will, for others, continue to enjoy your unique qualities for many years.

What will you be known for when you leave this world? The most influential people, the ones who leave behind incredible legacies, will live on in the hearts of the people they touch. Physically, they will no longer be a part of society—but their principles, philosophies, and accomplishments will become immortal, spreading from generation to generation.

YOU CAN START MAKING YOUR MARK ON THE WORLD
TODAY BY PUSHING YOURSELF TO EXCELLENCE!

Legacy is about life and living.
It’s about learning from the past
    About living in the present.
    And building for the future.
    Making a great family.
    Writing a book.
    Planting a tree.
    Teaching a kid to juggle.

SUGGESTIONS–Just planting a tree. Where is it best to produce a young tree: a clearing in an old-growth forest or an open field? Naturalists tell us that a young tree grows better when planted in an area with older trees. The reason is that the roots of the young tree can follow the pathways created by former trees and implant themselves more deeply.

Over time, the origins of many trees may graft themselves to one another, creating an intricate, interdependent base hidden under the ground. In this way, more vigorous trees share resources with weaker ones so that the whole forest becomes healthier.

That’s legacy: an interconnection across time, with a need for those who have come before us and a responsibility to those who come after us. Legacy is essential to what it is to be human. Research shows that adults need a sense of work to create a gift to support meaning.

Exploring the idea of legacy offers a glimpse not only into human relationships and building strong communities but also into the human spirit. If we all aim for the future in this way, what a wonderful world we would have.

The idea of legacy may remind us of death, but it’s not about dying. Being reminded of death is a good thing because dying informs life. It gives you a perspective on what is essential. But legacy is really about life and living. It helps us decide the kind of life we want and the world we want to live in.

The giving and receiving of legacies can produce, all at once, an entire spectrum of basic human emotions–hope, longing, regret, jealousy, anxiety, fear, dread, bitterness, rage, a sense of failure, a feeling of accomplishment, pride, contentment, joy, gratitude, humility, love.

When you start thinking about legacies, no matter what your age or state of health, you take inventory of your possessions and also of your accomplishments and disappointments. You take stock of what you’ve learned because of what you have done in the past, what you’re doing now, and what you still hope to do.

With varying levels of awareness, people also inevitably reflect on the people–on work, ideas, commitments, and social institutions that have given their lives shape and meaning.

Most of us will not be Albert Einstein, with our accomplishments remembered forever in the history books. But that does not lessen our need to create some meaning in our lives, to have what we’ve done and thought live on after us, to be remembered in some way.

From a practical standpoint, if you don’t pass on your life experience by leaving a legacy, the wisdom you’ve gained through decades of complex learning will disappear as your physical body wears out. What a waste, I see in some people.

A legacy may take many forms – children, grandchildren, your business, an ideal, a book, a community, a home, or some of ourselves. Our legacy naturally intrigues us and others who witness it. Understandably, we want to know how the world will remember us after our death.

How many of us will be surprised?
How many of us live so that our legacy reflects us?
How many of us are living with integrity and courage?
If you haven’t yet, start developing your legacy now!

WHAT NEW STORIES ARE YOU READY TO WRITE?

    WORDS TO INSPIRE YOU! >>
Inspirational quotes and motivational sayings have a unique ability to change the way we feel about life and can change our thinking.

They are so interesting, challenging, and essential on our path to joy, happiness, and finding ways to inspire ourselves and others.

Inspirational quotes and ideas give us a quick and timely burst of wisdom to get our focus back, offering the inspiration needed for the day or occasion.

I hope to inspire you with my words.
    Words have power.

Just as positive words can make someone smile, and a well-timed amusing quote can make someone laugh, your thoughts react to the world in real time.

EVEN IF YOU START LATE, ARE UNCERTAIN,
    OR ARE DIFFERENT –
    YOU CAN STILL FIND SUCCESS!

Don’t forget that you are only as young as the last time you changed your mind!
Keep your thoughts and self-talk fun and productive, and always reach for more advancement.

REMEMBER, VERY LITTLE IS NEEDED TO MAKE A GREAT LIFE.

    GET INSPIRED!
    READ OPTIMISTIC QUOTES

Positive and inspiring quotes are like beams of sunshine on a cloudy day. They inject optimism into our thoughts, brighten our mood,  and help us focus on the good in life. They remind us that even in the face of adversity, we can see the silver lining and embrace a positive attitude.

In a world filled with challenges and indecisiveness, the power of inspirational quotes cannot be exaggerated. These pearls of wisdom uniquely uplift our spirits, can spark positive change, and fuel our motivation often when we need it most.

I hope the following words help >>

“Everyone must leave something behind when he dies, my grandfather said. A child or a book or a painting or a house or a wall built or a pair of shoes made…It doesn’t matter what you do, he said, so long as you change something from the way it was before you touched it into something that’s like you after you take your hands away.” – Ray Bradbury, author

“The planting of a tree, especially one of the long-living hardwood trees, is a gift which you can make to posterity at almost no cost and with almost no trouble, and if the tree takes root, it will far outlive the visible effect of any of your other actions, good or evil.” – George Orwell, author

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson.

“In a gentle way, you can shake the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi

“I don’t want to end up simply having visited this world.” – Mary Oliver

“Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” – Warren Buffett

“If you’re going to live, leave a legacy.
Make a mark on the world that can’t be erased.” – Maya Angelou

“The things you do for yourself are gone when you are gone, but those you do for others remain your legacy.” – N. D. Kalu

“If your actions create a legacy that inspires others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, then you are an excellent leader.” – Dolly Parton

“Our most important legacy will be the contributions we make to the lives of other human beings.” – Thomas Kinkade

“The greatest legacy one can pass on to one’s children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one’s life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.” – Billy Graham

“We do make a difference – one way or the other. We are responsible for the impact of our lives. Whatever we do with whatever we have, we leave behind us a legacy for those who follow.” – Stephen Covey

“It’s about the journey–mine and yours–and the lives we can touch, the legacy we can leave, and the world we can change for the better.” – Tony Dungy

“When you make loving others the story of your life, there’s never a final chapter because the legacy continues. You lend your light to one person, and he or she shines it on another and another and another.” – Oprah Winfrey

    MY DAILY JOTTINGS >>
Each week goes by so quickly, don’t you think?
Time is going faster all the time, it seems.
Do you keep track of what you do each day?
Do this for a few weeks, and you will see your time differently.

10/28–Beth and I visited a local annual flea market in Plum Branch. Advertising was minimal; very few people showed up. Beth had put together some items to sell, and I brought nine of the coffee tables I built. There was interest, but none of the coffee tables sold.

10/29–Hmm, on this Sunday, we only did a little. Yet, life is how we make it, and I could have made something happen, did you?

One thing: Baby bunnies made an appearance today!
    That’s a good thing.

10/30–Beth’s van has been pulling to the left. I took it to have the alignment checked. They made it right. Yet, the van still pulled to the left. I was told it was the tires that were bad; who would have known? I went to a used tire place and bought two for $55 each.

Right away, the van was driving excellent.
Have you ever put used tires on your vehicle?
I’ve done that before, and both times, it turned out perfect.

10/31--Doctor, doctor, here we come. I’ve had a tooth that was bothering me. Dr. Cook did an x-ray, and I have a tooth in the back that needs help. Not having the money right now, I will have to live with it (for now.) Beth has had a sore knee. They did an x-ray, and she will eventually need knee replacement surgery. She will ultimately take care of it. For now, a frozen bag of corn helps with the pain.

After, since it is down south from here near the dentist, I returned to Costco for some items. As you know from before, I always end up getting there around lunchtime (planned?) Many different samples they usually have–my lunch.

11/1–Freezing weather today; yes, the cold spell hit. We will be running the fireplace all day.

I bought some flowers for Beth–that made her very happy.
I must do that more often!

11/2–Took care of the yard and plants today. Because of the sudden cold streak, the zucchini has all died, a sad thing. There is some lettuce and broccoli still living, which is a good thing.

We got some apples for free!
Of course, fresh apple sauce was on the menu.

11/3–Off to shopping at the markets today. We know of a few that still have lower prices, and we have stocked up.
With the massive changes coming, you should stock up, too.

IS IT TIME TO “MAKE” THINGS HAPPEN AND LIVE A FULLER LIFE?
