TOPIC FOR THIS WEEK —DO YOU CHALLENGE YOURSELF ENOUGH?

The concept of challenge came to me initially through juggling. In juggling, there is always another trick to work on and a more significant number of props to send up. So, this provided various challenges for me. I eventually threw 7 clubs up and kept them up. This was a world record at the time.

Riding my unicycle was another challenge for me. Learning at age 13, I became a master of the single wheel. In high school metal shop class, I built several unicycles–one was 14’ tall! This unicycle was quite a challenge to ride. I even performed on it for a few shows. YES, I met that challenge.

While riding my 7’ unicycle and performing in Balboa Park, San Diego, there was a set of steps I would ride by–my challenge–of course. I eventually rode down these steps in the show. Also, with a regular unicycle, I would jump rope on it in the performance.

One challenge I found as I was recovering and learning to walk again was this >> a person was helping me learn to walk again, and we were outside. I saw a small bush to the side and saw my challenge. I stepped to the side and jumped over this bush. I knew I could do it, but the therapist did not like that I did that.

Picking a topic for my blog to send to you each week is much of a challenge.
Yet, somehow, I get it done each week.

Change, along with challenges, happens all around us every day.  You can look at it in two ways: embrace the challenge of change and ensure you’re ahead of the curve. Or you can react to change after it has happened.  Some people thrive under stress, and others struggle to cope.

One way to ensure you are resilient enough to cope with the stress of change is to get used to changes. Challenges change your world because it changes your thinking. So practice embracing your challenges (and change), and you’ll earn the bonus of learning how to deal with stress.

For example, do you dream of traveling? Think of how you’re going to manage it. I did this challenge and was able to travel the world. Challenge yourself to make the changes needed so that you can travel.  Break it down into steps.  Can you save the amount you need to buy the ticket?  How will you do it?

Stimulating your brain with new ideas and doing things out of your comfort zone is good for you.  It makes you grow more brain cells. Finding challenges can add much to your life. In the short term, it makes life more fun as you work through your challenges.  In the longer term, you achieve your goals.

Doing a challenge gives you a reason to get up in the morning.  Did you know that people with a purpose in life live longer than those who don’t know what to do with themselves?   Trying out a few challenges can help you choose a purpose. And, as you work towards your current challenge, you also work on your internal beliefs about the world.

If you already have a trail of achievements behind you, your view of the world is far more likely to be positive. Having a dream or a goal is implicit in accepting a challenge.  A challenge is just a tiny step toward achieving something larger.  A way to take from where you are now to what you want to be.

So, think about your life goals and what you want to achieve.
    What’s your dream?
Before too long, you’ve changed yourself, achieved your goals, and become the person you want to be.

When you challenge and achieve your goals, your confidence soars. You master new habits more efficiently and stress out far less. You feel more secure with yourself, knowing you can change and adapt to the changes around you.

    If you’re not getting there,
    Don’t blame fate.
    Don’t blame luck.
Don’t even try to blame it on the others.
You are the boss of your life.
Set up challenges and get going!

Choose your challenge for today, every day.
Take action and do it today, tomorrow, and each day.
Feel great that you’ve done one challenge.
    Do another one.
Set the pattern for a lifetime!
Watch the benefits that grow from your habit of facing challenges.

Like me, I hope challenges have brought you a life of fun and adventure that you want. You must challenge yourself because there is no stopping until you become aware that you are in control.

Here are some ideas for helping to challenge yourself >>

    1. Build Your Confidence
When you inspire yourself with quotes and affirmations, like in my blogs. Taking action will give you the lift you need. When you overcome a difficult challenge, you will show that you are better than you give yourself credit for.

You’ll be amazed at how your confidence grows when you work on yourself by pushing the limitations you put on yourself. There is so much more in life than you think. For example, if you feel that you are not good at writing but want to be a good writer or wish you were–write! The best thing you can do is challenge yourself to write something every day.

How about starting a blog you send to people weekly, as I do? This might be a fantastic way to start on the path of challenging yourself. You can start by sharing your own experience and story.

You will become more comfortable and confident as you discover and achieve your goals. This is just one reason why you must challenge yourself.

    2. Grow into Your Personality
We all have different life situations that change us. Some of these challenges make us better, while others make us bitter. The choices we make every day define us and make us who we become. That is why challenging yourself is so important. How will you get to the core of your qualities if you don’t exploit all the possibilities?

When you push yourself to make decisions that don’t make you comfortable, you’ll give yourself new goals, different perspectives, and new habits and ultimately become the person you want to be.

    3. Know that You Did Your Absolute Best
Living a life full of regrets can tear you down. Life is often either the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. You don’t want to look back and think, “If I had pushed myself just a little harder, who knows where I could have ended up?”

It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it!

    MY DAILY JOTTINGS >>
Each week goes by so quickly, don’t you think?
Time is going faster all the time, it seems.
Do you keep track of what you do each day?
Keep track for a few weeks; you will see your time differently.

12/16–I got a big wood pile from Ken Young. As I wrote, Ken gets tree trunks, cuts them down to 2x4s and such, and then sells them. I get wood leftovers, which is great for the fire. Also, from this, I use the outside cuttings to make coffee tables.

The wood I get is about eight feet long each. Our neighbor, Terry, helped me cut a bunch to fit into the fireplace. I gave much wood to Terry, too, for his fire.

12/17–Having wood to fit into the fireplace, I keep us warm through the day by keeping the fire going.

Beth made more cookies, which is always a good thing. A gloomy day–cold outside–so we remained inside.

My ribs have been hurting much, all day. I’ve broken ribs before, and it does hurt much. Somehow, this pain is different. I will be getting X-rays done, and I am curious about what is happening in my body.

12/18–A doctor day. The pain in my left rib area is still extreme. I went to see my doctor, who took X-rays. The doctor could find nothing broken, or that stood out. The x-ray was sent to another place to examine it, but they found nothing, either. The pain is much, I must say.

I went to the dentist in the afternoon, and he saw that a route canal I had done in the past still needed to be wholly performed. That tooth must be taken care of, too. When I was young, I did take good care of my choppers, which is showing not.

NO power. The electricity went off this evening. Looks like a transformer went out and caught fire. Other houses in the area also lost power. Beth was quite bothered; I knew there was nothing we could do and went to sleep in bed. By morning, everything was back to normal.

12/19–Beth and I transported three rabbits, about 30 miles each way. We left them off at Smith’s Farm Supply in Lincolnton, GA. We will get ten bucks for each rabbit. But, more importantly, the families and the kids who receive them will be so happy!

12/20–Off to Greenwood, SC (our nearest big city), where I got Beth another present for the upcoming holiday.

12/21–We went to the library today, where Beth and I have friends who work there. Basically, I worked on various projects around the house. I will have to “make” things happen to write about such.

My rib continues to hurt a lot. I don’t know what I could have done when I fell, but I hope it will heal. I’m not one to “accidentally” fall, and I’ve not done much falling in the past.

12/22–It’s like an alarm clock in my head goes each day at about 3am. I awake and up for the day I am.

Beth put together some gift baskets for friends, cookies, candy, etc. We had a nice time of it, taking this out for people in the area.

We just got back from, yikes, being stuck in a ditch. I was going to back into a driveway, timed it wrong, and went into a ditch. A guy who lives near there and works for a towing company went and got his truck and was able to pull us out. $58 bucks later, we were home free.

While there, I did teach the kids to juggle.

MAKE A FABULOUS WEEK FOR YOURSELF THIS WEEK!

YOUR CHALLENGE FOR THE WEEK >>
This challenge was presented a long time ago. Have you faced this?
If you have gone through a brain injury, do this challenge.
HERE IT IS — Get to a carpeted floor or mat. Go down to your knees, then sit and lay down. Now, get back up using your hands and arms.
Next, lay down and get up, not using your hands or arms.
Now, figure out a way to get up that is different than you did before.

THIS IS YOUR LIFE — MAKE YOUR LEGACY HAPPEN!
    DO SOMETHING NEW–DAILY,
THEN, KEEP DOING IT FOR THE REST OF  YOUR LIFE.

TOPIC FOR THIS WEEK — Be Aware and Have Peace in You

In the last blog, I wrote about death, a path we all go down.
I thought of some other things that I did not include >>
===It does not matter how successful you are in life.
===All the worry in the world will do nothing to assist.
===It does not matter if you suffered through an accident, as I had.
===What counts how many people you help.

THE KEY TO A GOOD LIFE IS TO FIND THE MOST JOY YOU CAN!
AS YOU HELP OTHERS TO FIND THEIR OWN.

The idea of finding joy brings on thoughts about bringing peace to our lives. In today’s busy and chaotic world, obtaining peace through and with change can feel elusive, conjuring up images of a privileged class of people who spend their days at leisure. Find joy daily.

Why, just yesterday, I found joy in receiving a call from David Sanchez, whom I have spoken to before. He wants to help me find a book publisher through his company >> https://www.theewingspublishing.com/.
And there’s a chance his company might help put together a movie about my story. I will have more about David in my Daily Jottings for December 13. Are you aware?

Awareness is an ongoing thing — I think it has to be.
Whereas Alertness — is more temporary.
    Awareness is not sustainable.
It requires more energy because it is heightened.
    Being alert drains you.
    Being aware sustains you.
    Is this getting too personal?

But — as with anything — it is a personal thing. Like many, I know I need to eat better and exercise more. But if I’m alerted to that, I will take action faster. But if it’s sustainable, I must leverage that alertness into ongoing awareness. Be on alert.

Being alerted to something is the trigger.
    Maintaining awareness must be constant.
Can you do this and maintain your productivity?

I don’t think building productivity around making everything urgent is wise. It’s just not sustainable. If you do this, you also risk making haphazard decisions — taking action for action’s sake instead of being more mindful of your actions. Focus on details.

The fact is that the bulk of our ideas and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, either. Our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions carry us through much of our lives, so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we make a call or get gas for our vehicle.

The problem is when we’re on autopilot for so long, we forget we’re on autopilot. Because when we’re not even aware of our own routines, habits, impulses, and reactions, we no longer control them—often—the details contain us.

Details, details, details. Like many, you often have your phone in your pocket because you have built the habit of bringing it everywhere. I’m alerted to the phone being in my bag whenever it gives me some form of notification that I have allowed it to be delivered. Stay alert.

There is a distinction there, and I think it’s essential. I believe alertness and awareness work well and serve you–once you understand the distinction between the two. I hope this writing has alerted you to that distinction so you can become more aware going forward. With alertness, have peace.

As you are unfettered by the daily demands of life, finding peace doesn’t have to be such an impossibility. According to some big thinkers, inner peace is something we each already carry within us — we need to make room for it so it can surface through the noise of life. How are you breathing?

According to these sage folks, a big part of attaining peace is breathing thoughtfully, slowing things down, and being present. Another is accepting that life will unfold the way it’s meant to. That means embracing every experience, even the ones that don’t go our way, as an opportunity for growth.

It’s easier said than done, of course. Those who study inner peace will note that it’s not numbness that defines peace of mind so much as it is simply awareness. It’s about being conscious of what’s happening but choosing not to be disturbed despite the circumstances.

    Do I have YOUR attention?
    YOU must have your attention.
    Be open to seeing all.
    Be alert.
    Be aware.

    MY DAILY JOTTINGS >>
Each week goes by so quickly, don’t you think?
Time is going faster all the time, it seems.
Do you keep track of what you do each day?
Keep track for a few weeks; you will see your time differently.

12/9–In our bedroom, we have high windows, which are very nice. Beth suggested I put a shelf above the windows, which I did today. We will be using this shelf to display nice things. Do you care to send us a photo of yourself to go up there?

I thought Beth would return from her parent’s house today, Sunday. She let me know that tomorrow is the day. We are both missing each other. Yes, an intense love there is.

12/10–Hmm, what did I do today?
More important, what did you do today?

12/11–Beth broke down on her way home. She hit a massive pothole in the road, causing her tire to go flat. She said she knew right away she could not have done that? She called me, and I recommended she contact State Farm, our insurance company, which also offers emergency road services. After some concern, she eventually made it home ok.

12/12–Beth is tired of being on the road, so we stayed home most of the day.

12/13–Went with Beth to Greenwood (25 miles north) to get a tire for Beth’s van. As you know, one of her tires popped the other night, and she was using her spare. In Greenwood, I found El Amigo Used Tires. The tire we got from them looks as good as a brand-new one. If you ever need tires, check out used tire places near you. The price is often half the price of new tires.

Today we found this giant mushroom in the woods.

Today, I spoke with David Sanchez, who works with a company helping to find a publisher for your book. We talked about him helping me to get my books out there worldwide through publishers. Also, he has contacts to get a TV Movie together about my story. He has received this blog for some time and sees how I want to help people >> theewingspublishing.com

David said he needs an investment from me to get things going, which I don’t have right now. Perhaps my blog words have been helping you? and you want to help? You can reach David by email >> dsanchez@theewingspublishing.com

12/14–Two of the parakeets found a new home. Beth received four bigger birds and will be making babies to sell. Now, we are getting bunnies and birds to new homes. Seeing them when they are young is nice, so we like this.
    A woodpecker on our birdfeeder?

Is it cold where you are? Down to freezing recently here — burrr!

Beth is making a few different cookies right now. They are turning out ideal. Do you give things away for the holiday time?

Today, I was in the woods getting fuel for the fire. I saw Jemma run off after something, so I ran after her. I stepped on something that made me fall forward quickly. I could not get my hands in front of me to catch my fall. My body slammed to the ground, and I hit hard.

12/15–Awakening to pain is not a good thing. Yes, the middle of my body hurts. I must have broken a rib in the fall yesterday. There is nothing they can do about a broken rib; I will have to live with it. Yet, Beth wants me to go to the doctor to document what occurred. Knowing the doctor cannot do anything for a broken rib, I will not go in.

I did sleep in, getting up at about 6am. As you know, I usually awaken at about 3am. Last night, I took two AdvilPM pills to help me sleep; I guess that did the job.

TOPIC FOR THIS WEEK — Yes, you will die

    (NO PHOTOS THIS WEEK, SORRY)

Some blogs back, I wrote about our eventual death, which we all will find. This subject has been on my mind again recently; I had to write more about our demise. At the age of 64, I am approaching my final days (although I hope to live beyond 100.) Are you going to live long enough?

Also, in the last blog, I wrote about going to food banks to get food. I did not write; most of the food we get is given to needy people in the area. We have enough to hold us for the future for some months.

    How are you helping others?
    Are you gathering food?
Are you helping others to acquire food?

The sad thing, I am not hearing from my daughters. I miss you, Jasmine, April, and Leah, and would love to hear from you.

==With the changes in the world, we all need to be more self-reliant.
==With modifications, we need to help others get through change.
==Start now to get food for your future and help people around you.
==We must work together to get through these life changes.

Life is basically living a death sentence. I previously wrote about death and thought it was an essential subject of life and death. Most young people do not think of their upcoming death; I never did. I did not think about death when I was 23 and the first time I got hit by a truck.

With the media overwhelming things these days, death is getting more exposure. Seems that more and more people are passing away. But it is simply that the news of someone dying is getting more publicity. Will I have that media coverage of my death? Will You?

What fascinates me is the fact that there are no other animals that see their death as coming, only humans. That bug you squished recently had no idea his end was arriving. And more and more people seem to be passing away. I think it is just because of the openness of media these days more deaths are being publicized.

Help others until you die. Death marks the point when your vital organs stop working to keep you alive. The actual moment of death is often just one part of a more involved process of dying, where your body slowly shuts down. Help others all you can until your end.

Knowing what to expect before your death, at the moment, and even after death, can help you face the experience when the time comes. Yes, even you will die one day.

I built a fourteen-foot unicycle back in high school and rode it a lot–way up there. After I fell off it the third time, I gave it away.
I hope the guy I gave it to did not get hurt. I sometimes juggled 5 torches and/or 5 machetes. I am alive and have all my fingers still.

(This is not my 14′ unicycle, 7′, halfway there)

    DANGER–I SOMETIMES AIMED FOR IT.

A few times, through different accidents, I was on death’s door, as they say. My first accident involved a 37-day coma and my recovery. I was told that if my accident had occurred just five years prior, I would not have lived and come back as I did.

Then, eighteen years after the first, I got hit by a truck again. This time, my brain did not get damaged, but my body was broken much. Both times, the accidents were not my fault. Part of life–and part of death.

Also, as I get older, the idea of my demise is growing. What comes to mind is, “What do I want to accomplish before my eventual death?” I want to be known for helping people in their lives. Am I helping you with these blog words?  Hmm, what will your legacy be?

Just last week, Rosalynn Carter died at the age of 96. This woman lived a grand life, which included helping many people. The news said, “It is so sad that Rosalynn Carter died.” Mrs. Carter lived a fantastic life, and 96 is a ripe old age; there should be no sadness at death.

Death is not a sad thing; it should be expected. Seems that, on someone’s death, we should be celebrating their accomplishments, love, and how they might have added to the life of others on earth. Death is not so sad, and it is a part of life. What’s sad is it’s a part of life that people seldom talk about.

Yes, it made me sad when, at the age of 82, my mom perished. But she also lived to a good age. I have to tell you I cried real tears while there. I’ve gone to funerals before and saw most people standing around and just crying. This should be a time to celebrate this person’s accomplishments and love.

As I die, I hope there is no drastic pain involved, and I do not want to be a burden to others. I want my body to be laid in a forest so that bugs and creatures will feast on me and my energies will not be wasted. I hate the idea of being put into a box and the box into a cemetery. What a waste of part of the earth.

As you know, I have never believed in any of the gods humans invented, so that will not be a part of my death.

    How about this >>
Death is the irreversible cessation of all your vital functions, especially as indicated by the permanent stoppage of your heart, respiration, and brain activity–the end of life and brain death.

So, get out there and make this a better world for all those who will come after you are gone.

Now is the time — get going!

    Who wants to live forever?

How can you plan for your upcoming death?

WHAT NEW STORIES ARE YOU READY TO WRITE?

    MY DAILY JOTTINGS >>
Each week goes by so quickly, don’t you think?
Time is going faster all the time, it seems.
Do you keep track of what you do each day?
Keep track for a few weeks; you will see your time differently.

12/2–Awakening at about 3am again; this has become a habit. It seems as though I get enough sleep. Would 4 hours a night qualify as “enough?”

My foot hurts tremendously. Last week, I saw a podiatrist because I thought I had something in my foot. It turned out that I had developed a wart on the ball of my foot. She immediately knew what it was and used something to burn it off. That is why I have severe pain today. Hoping it will heal fast.

Standing was difficult because my foot hurt , so I did not achieve much today.

12/3–My standard sleep time is awakening at about 3am. My foot feels better today; I’m happy about that.

I was going to work on the gardens today. Raindrops will fall most of the day, so there will be no garden work.

The rains did not fall all day. I got out and put plastic inside the 4’x8’ planter. Took most of the day to accomplish that. Just one more garden to go, and then all will be ready for planting. I still have some lettuce growing in that one garden. Today, I picked a bunch for salads. It’s so lovely to be able to produce the things that I eat.

This afternoon, Beth and I watched a black-and-white movie from 1939 called “Meet Dr. Christian,” a good flick. The subject of this blog is death, and I have to say that all of the actors in the film we watched today are dead. Life is brief, and we have a short time to accomplish what we want. And, as I try and do, find all the joy you can while you are here.

12/4–It’s like there is an alarm clock in my brain. No matter when I lay down to get some shuteye, it was about 10pm last night, and my mind awakens at about 3am, daily.

Worked on the gardens some, between rain coming down in the area. Also, I went to a Home Depot to ask if they had any dirt in damaged bags. As bags get thrown around, some get damaged. I got five big bags for $1.35 each, usually about ten bucks a bag. A great deal that will add to my gardens.

How about you? Will you be growing your things to eat, as I suggested? Ask at your home store garden area, such as Lowe’s or Home Depot, about bags of dirt. Ask if they have any dirt in damaged bags that you can get for cheaper (often more than half-off). Start building your garden with these.

In the past, I wrote about how I built my gardens; I would like to let you know again. I got six pallets to construct each garden, two on each side and one at each end. I cut each pallet at 22” on the long side. I put the used two-inch drywall screws to connect them together.

After they were connected, I used 2”x6” lumber to go around the top and screwed this down, which also held each planter solid. Then, I stained the top wood and painted the sides green, like in the photo. You can sit on them at this height to watch your garden grow. Contact me with any questions —
    kitsummers@gmail.com

At 22” with a 2” x 6” on top, it makes a great place to sit down and watch your garden grow. It was below-freezing last night. A few things are still growing, but I think they are done now.

12/5–I slept in until about 4am today. I seem to do better with limited sleep. How about you? Did you have a good night’s sleep?

12/6–Awake about 1am today; up for the day I am. Sleep only appeals to me a little; it is necessary but a waste of time.

Most of the day was spent working on the gardens. I’ve added many leaves to each garden, which will break down by the next season and add much to the dirt.

12/7–Beth is off today to visit her parents in North Carolina. A four-hour trip, each way, she should be a-OK. I will be here by myself for four days.

Today, I built a shelf/rack for the bathroom. There are too many things to go on the sink, but all necessary. So, now we have plenty of room for all.

When I see something that needs to be done or improved upon, I get right on it and take the challenge.

12/8–Today, I worked on the shelf I am building to go above the bedroom windows. It’s turning out excellent.

TOPIC FOR THIS WEEK — Reach for Excellence!

In my life, I have aimed for excellence from a young age. By “excellence,” I mean doing whatever you do to the best of your ability. Starting in junior high school and riding my unicycle, I tried every trick I could and advanced quickly.

This led me to juggling, where I always tried to be the best I could.
On to juggling 7 clubs, a world record at the time.
In high school, pole-vaulting: I flew over the bar at 18’6”, a record.
Then, of course, there was my accident and the 37-day coma I had to come back from.
Writing my book, Juggling with Finesse”, was a significant aim toward excellence in my life.
Starting small, like brushing my teeth myself, I had to perfect every detail of the task.

Pursuing excellence is essential if we live life to the fullest and make maximum impact on those around us. This requires hard work and dedication. It’s about consistently doing your best and challenging yourself to exceed the standard.

This process can be rewarding and challenging, and the accomplishment at the end of each day is a powerful motivator to keep you going.

Remember that excellence isn’t a fixed point to reach and forget about; it’s a continuous journey. It’s about setting realistic goals that align with your larger life aspirations. Every day, every effort you make toward those objectives is a triumph. Acknowledge your strengths, and be compassionate about the areas where you need to improve.

No matter your problem, if you break things down and do your darndest, you will aim for the excellence you seek. Once you start toward the habit of excellence, you can strive for excellence in all you do. Do the work; make this a pattern in your life.

In our quest for excellence, it’s vital to understand that this pursuit is not about chasing an elusive state of perfection. Instead, it’s about striving to be a better version of ourselves each day. The journey toward excellence is marked by hard work, a sense of accomplishment, and a commitment to constant learning.

Understanding is your crucial partner to excellence for yourself and others. It’s essential to approach your journey with kindness and self-forgiveness. Welcome your imperfections, for they are a part of what makes you uniquely human.

As we navigate the complexities of life and “juggle” various responsibilities, let us remind ourselves that excellence isn’t about being the best in all fields–instead–it is excelling in the areas that truly matter to us. It’s about recognizing our strengths, handling our weaknesses, and embracing the journey of self-improvement with enthusiasm.

As you reflect on your improvements at the end of each day, remember that pursuing excellence isn’t about reaching perfection; it’s about improving yourself daily. You may have gone through a brain injury and are still in a wheelchair, having trouble speaking. You can still aim for and find the excellence that you can!

The mindset of excellence is a commitment to personal growth as you help others to reach their goals. Aiming for excellence is more than a unique experience; it is a belief in your abilitybto improve and a dedication to the journey, no matter how challenging.

Pursuing excellence means living life to the fullest, significantly impacting us and those around us, thus evolving into the best version of ourselves, one day at a time. So, let’s continue this journey, taking each step with determination, compassion, and a commitment to becoming a better version of ourselves with every passing day.

Now, let’s look at the ways you can reach excellence and prevent lapse >>

    1. Know your desires, your strengths, and your weaknesses.
Sometimes, just writing down a list of your strengths and weaknesses can provide a clear perspective. Please note the areas you need to work on and pat yourself on the back for those strengths.

    2. Set realistic goals to aim for.
Work hard, work bright and with intelligence, and do it consistently. Superiority will require you to stretch your boundaries, push your limits, and live to your highest potential. If you feel you are losing your motivation, make yourself accountable to another person. Surround yourself with positive, supportive people who will encourage and help keep you motivated.

    3. Focus–Focus–Focus.
Procrastination is your enemy, but so is distraction. Do you make poor determinations? Decisions that distract you from your goals and your ability to seek the excellence you want? Be aware of the patterns, then take a few minutes to prioritize and reduce your list to just one week at a time, realizing that mistakes and defects are a natural part of the process.

    4. Take care of your health–both mental and physical.
Do you have pride in yourself and your work? Are you frustrated because your goal isn’t turning out as you first imagined? Learn to change with the changes. Take time to refresh, rest, and take a break when you need. Don’t let yourself fall into the trap of being a victim. Remember, it’s okay if you make mistakes; learn from them and use them as opportunities for growth and improvement.

    5. Become a sponge for wisdom.
Continuous learning widens your horizons. Stay humble and draw from others who have gone before you; learn from the best. Look for computer sites to help you strive for the excellence that you seek.

    6. Be aware of the company you keep.
Surrounding yourself with excellence is a great motivator.
Others are looking for you, too. Find others and join them toward their excellence.
    Stay away from negative people.

    7. Always stay on top of things.
Integrity is the value that should be at the top of your list. Others will notice when you follow through on what you set before you. Even more beneficial is that you can look back and see how far you have come–you will inspire others and yourself!

    8. Choosing to excel despite the level of hardship.
If excellence were accessible, no one would choose mediocracy. Keep going. Keep moving. Remind yourself of the why. Write things down and stick it to your mirror if you have to. But choose to do the hard stuff.

    9. Be open to change because changes will come.
If you resist change and choose to stick to your old ways, you stand to lose out on the continued opportunities and possibilities to grow and better your life. Don’t strive for perfection in what you do. Strive for excellence. Learn to change with the changes along the way.

    10. Maintain an upbeat attitude about what you do, yourself, and your goal.
Excellence is not the eventual goal; it’s a mindset and a way of life. Believe in your ability to improve, and you’ll see yourself always at the top.

Keep track for a few weeks; you will see your time differently.

11/25 — 12/1 Beth and I did nothing significant this week; there was nothing to write about.
Next week, I will “make” things happen and write more.

I do have some photos, though. Enjoy.

    TOPIC FOR THIS WEEK—BALANCE.

In my last blog post, I wrote about living for the moment–each instant.
I have since found the following words that will benefit you >>

“There is indeed nothing other than the single purpose of the present moment.
A person’s life is a succession of moment after moment.
When one fully understands the present moment,
there will be nothing else to do and nothing else to pursue. “
    Yamamoto Tsunetomo

The past is a memory; the future is our imagination. <<>> Kit Summers

As a juggler, I did much balance five feet long.
** To balance, you must focus on the top of the object you want to balance.
** Calmly move your hand so that the top stays over the hand.
** First, learn to balance on your hand, then your chin.
** Cut 10 inches off the pole and balance this.
** Cut more and more off as you improve.
** Drop to one knee while maintaining a balance.
** Learn to balance on your elbows, shoulders, and feet.
** Balance a club while you juggle 3 more.

Balance? Because of my accident, I still have trouble balancing on one foot. I can ride a unicycle, but that is just controlling the unicycle under you. I used to ride my unicycle much, even after the accident. But, since I’ve not been riding, my skill on the single wheel is diminished.

There is life balance, too. As I was recovering from my 37-day coma, I often thought that I would never improve. After some time, I realized that my depression and sadness would be gone soon, and I would be back on a good path. When I was doing great, I told myself I “might” be back down again.

Balance is the key. Having balance in life can lead to a good life or, without, a not-so-good life. When you are down and feeling like giving up, remember that it is temporary; you will soon again be happy, and things will go better for you. If you can maintain this thought, you will never suffer from depression.

Balanced living means reaching optimal health in all aspects of your life. In relationships, work, fitness, health, and emotional happiness. We all get so caught up in work and family responsibilities that we must remember to make time for ourselves.

Balance facilitates our busy everyday lives. However, it is impossible to have a complete or perfect balance. Balance is stability, from managing time correctly to eating healthy to being mindful in one’s thinking.

Also, meditating or doing visualization exercises daily is one easy way to regain control of a stress-filled life. Finding a quiet room and unplugging can make a big difference.

    Ideas to help >>
    1. Accept.
Take time to look at your life–what state of mind–how you feel.
Please be honest with yourself and notice the areas of your life that you aren’t.

    2. Study.
Notice if you’re relying more on an internal or external focus or if there are areas within each category that you want to be more balanced.

    3. Set Goals.
Make plans and write your goals down to balance your life. Make lists of dreams and goals you have.

    4. Plan Lessons.
Could you list daily, weekly, and monthly tasks you must do to reach each goal?
What have you tried in the past?
    Did it work?
If not, what can you do differently?

    5. Reminisce.
What are the most important things you’ve achieved in the past?
How did you stay focused on this goal?
How did you handle your fears, doubts, and negative self-talk?
How does it feel to know that you accomplished the goal despite these parts of yourself?

    6. Prepare.
What inner “things” will try to keep you from sticking to your plan (fears, doubts, worries, negative self-talk)? Can you determine what you will say to yourself to push you off track? (For example: “Just one more bite now, I’ll start eating better later.”)

    7. Certify.
What do you need to remember in those times?
What are things you can say to that self-sabotaging part of yourself?
    Be kind to yourself.
Balance won’t feel good if you’re cruel to yourself in creating it!

    8. Connect.
Is there a person or a tactic you can use to keep yourself supported, motivated, and focused in those hard times? Connecting and sharing your inner process with someone is highly recommended . Find someone who can help you challenge your inner demons and celebrate your little accomplishments.

Like any life goal, overcoming customary patterns and creating new ones takes time and effort. If you stay on track with this elaborate and purposeful process for three months, you will likely develop new habits to enjoy a more balanced life in the future!

WHAT NEW STORIES ARE YOU READY TO WRITE?

    WORDS TO INSPIRE YOU! >>
Inspirational quotes and motivational sayings have a unique ability to change the way we feel about life and can change our thinking.

They are so interesting, challenging, and essential on our path to joy, happiness, and finding ways to inspire ourselves and others.

Inspirational quotes and ideas give us a quick and timely burst of wisdom to get our focus back, offering the inspiration needed for the day or occasion.

I hope to inspire you with my words.
    Words have power.

Are you accomplishing what you want before your eventual death?
At any age, you can (and should) make changes to make your life better.

How you think and feel about yourself, including your beliefs and expectations about what is possible, determines everything in your life, and it all derives from your quality of thinking.

WHEN YOU IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF YOUR THINKING,
YOU CHANGE THE QUALITY OF YOUR LIFE—SOMETIMES INSTANTLY!

Just as positive words can make someone smile, and a well-timed amusing quote can make someone laugh, your thoughts react to the world in real-time. You have this control!

You have complete control over only one thing in the universe — Your Thinking —and that’s where motivational quotes come in!

To keep your motivation, you have to use each day as an opportunity to improve and get closer to your goals. It might sound like a lot of work—and with your busy schedule—next to impossible. But you can do it!

    Self-talk is so essential—THINK RIGHT!

Motivational words, yes, they are just words.
But they are positive words; they will keep you on track.

EVEN IF YOU START LATE, ARE UNCERTAIN,
    OR ARE DIFFERENT –
    YOU CAN STILL FIND SUCCESS!

Don’t forget that you are only as young as the last time you changed your mind!
Keep your thoughts and self-talk fun and productive, and always reach for more advancement.

REMEMBER–VERY LITTLE IS NEEDED TO MAKE A GREAT LIFE.

    GET INSPIRED!
    READ OPTIMISTIC QUOTES

Positive and inspiring quotes are like beams of sunshine on a cloudy day. They inject optimism into our thoughts, brighten our mood,  and help us focus on the good in life.

They remind us that even in the face of adversity, we can see the silver lining and embrace a positive attitude.
In a world filled with challenges and indecisiveness, the power of inspirational quotes cannot be exaggerated.
These pearls of wisdom uniquely uplift our spirits, can spark positive change, and fuel our motivation often when we need it most.

I hope the following words help >>
“Life is like riding a unicycle.
To stay on, you have to keep moving forward.”
    Kit Summers

    “Life is about balance.
Be kind, but don’t let people abuse you.

    — Doreen Virtue

    “Work is a rubber ball.
If you drop it, it will bounce back.
The other four balls – family, health, friends, integrity – are made of glass.
If you drop one of these, it will be irrevocably scuffed, nicked, perhaps even shattered.”
    — Gary W. Keller

    — Mahavatar Babaji

    MY DAILY JOTTINGS >>
Each week goes by so quickly, don’t you think?
Time is going faster all the time, it seems.
Do you keep track of what you do each day?
Keep track for a few weeks; you will see your time differently.

11/11–Someone wanted a bunny for a friend who wants to give it to someone else as a marriage present.
The rabbit’s name is Alice, what a great gift. We drove the rabbit 60 miles round-trip and made someone happy.

11/12–Every once in a while, I like to attend a church. I go to try and figure out why people believe. It seems to me that people often attend because they think they “have” to. As you know, I have attended many churches worldwide; things go the same everywhere.

A few blocks away from us is facebook.com/narrowwaybaptist.

To see if many attended, I had to go and see. Smiles all around, a good thing to see.

Yes, seeing the social communication for the 37 people there is great. This church was just like the many I have gone to around the world–Some singing, some praying, a pastor talks for a while, a hat is passed for money, and after about an hour and a half, people head home.

Faith was a big part of what occurred today. For me, having faith is an excuse when you don’t have any realistic proof or evidence for something.

Faith can be generated for anything; I have faith that there is no god; what does it all matter, anyway?
Some other words for “faith” are >> confidence, belief, and conviction.

11/13–Today, I cut up more wood to use on the fire. As you know, I get the wood for free from Ken Young. He buys piles of giant trees and cuts them down to 2”x4” boards and such. What I get from him is the scrap wood he can’t use.

Also, on the side cuts, I use these for the tables I make. I screw four legs into the bottom, then sand the top smooth. Next, I put stain on the tables and a clear coating over them. These coffee tables turn out fantastic.

I put a bird feeder outside our bedroom window, see?

11/14–Putting in another rain barrel to collect the rain droplets. Right now, we have two that hold 100 gallons each, the one that I just put in that holds 55 gallons. And the last will be the 275-gallon tote. We will happily drink water while, perhaps, systems go down. Are you thirsty?

Beth made a batch of chocolate chip cookies, which turned out excellent. This is a recipe that I developed some years ago. Have you made some yet? Make some of these cookies–you will love them >>

    Chocolate chip cookies

    4 cups of flour
    3 sticks softened butter
    1 1/2 cups sugar
    1 1/2 cups brown sugar
    2 tablespoons Kahlua
    2 tablespoons vanilla
    4 eggs
    2 teaspoons baking soda
    1 teaspoon salt
    325 for 15 minute

Also, today, I  made noodles. Homemade noodles are the best! Have you had them, you must. I have a hand crank that kneads the dough.

    Noodles
    3 egg yolks
    1 whole egg
    2 tbs water
    1 tsp olive oil
    1/2 tsp salt
    2 cups flour

11/15–Don Atwell from up the street came over with his chainsaw and helped me cut up the wood I got from Ken Young. At this point, I have plenty of wood to help us through this winter and next.

11/16–The city of McCormick, where I live, is giving away Thanksgiving meals today. I came over two hours early, not expecting many people here yet. I got in line behind nine cars. It is an hour and 15 minutes before they start; there must be over 33 cars here now. In the end, over fifty cars must have gone through.

    Feeding the masses they are.

We had an addition to our farm–parakeets! They are quiet ones.

11/17–With many large trees around us, plenty of leaves are used for compost. As you might know, I built eight 4’x8’ gardens. I have soil on the bottom 3/4 of each planter. I put a layer of leaves over the top, and by the next planting season, the leaves should break down to make great dirt.
